(2:56 p.m. EDT) -- Luxury cruise line Seabourn's newest ship, Seabourn Ovation, has completed its final round of sea trials in the Mediterranean, off the coast of Italy -- a milestone that brings it one step closer to its debut in late April 2018.
During the sea trials, which are a standard procedure for all new ships, a team of officers and engineers tested Seabourn Ovation's technical and mechanical systems. The ship is receiving its finishing touches at the Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa, Italy, in preparation for its delivery ceremony April 27.
"We're now weeks away from delivery, and I'm very pleased with the progress and preparedness of the ship now that sea trials are complete," Seabourn President Richard Meadows said. "Our first revenue guests will board on May 5, and I know they will be excited to see this newest addition to the Seabourn fleet."
Seabourn Ovation will begin its maiden season with an 11-night cruise departing May 5, from Venice to Barcelona. It will spend the summer sailing Northern Europe, before repositioning to Asia for a series of 14-night cruises between Singapore and Hong Kong.
Like its fleetmate Seabourn Encore, Ovation ship will carry 600 passengers and is designed by Adam D. Tihany. It will feature spacious cabins and multiple dining venues, and bars and lounges.
