Exterior shot of Silver Spirit at sea

(5 p.m. EST) -- A project to lengthen Silver Spirit by 49 feet will introduce new dining venues, suites, additional suites, an enlarged pool deck, a new health and fitness center, an updated casino and a slew of cosmetic enhancements to the ship, which will be revealed when it reenters service on May 6, 2018.

During the dry dock at Italy's Fincantieri shipyard, which runs from March 5 to May 1, the 540-passenger luxury ship will be cut open, and a prebuilt segment will be inserted into its midsection. The updated spaces are inspired by the line's newest flagship, Silver Muse. Below is a breakdown of the new suites, dining venues and spa.

The Owner's Suite on Silver Muse

The stretching will make room for 34 new suites, as well as a Balsorano Suite -- designed after the Owner's Suite on Silver Muse -- that will feature decorative items that are of personal value to Silversea's chairman, Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio di Balsorano de Clunieres. Additionally, a handful of suites will receive new Savoir mattresses, horse-hair mattress toppers and HD screens.

Dining & Bars

Four new restaurants -- Atlantide, Indochine, Spaccanapoli, and Silver Note -- as well as a cafe and lounge, will be added during the dry dock, while the existing dining venues (Seishin, La Dame, The Grill, and La Terrazza) will receive new menus. Atlantide and Indochine will replace The Restaurant (Spirit's current main dining room) and Silver Note will replace Stars Supper Club.

  • Atlantide: An elegant bar and grill focusing on seafood, with standout dishes like royal crab, blue lobster and Verbena infused red snapper in a sea salt crust. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • Indochine: Open for dinner only, this Asian venue will serve Indian, Vietnamese and Thai cuisine.
  • Spaccanapoli: Silver Spirit's new Italian restaurant, open for dinner.
  • Silver Note: A reservation-only dinner venue serving tapas to the sounds of jazz and blues.
  • Arts Cafe: The new modern cafe will serve coffee and tea, as well as host various exhibitions and performances.
  • Dolce Vita: An elegant lounge, with a cocktail bar and live piano music.

The new Zagara Spa that debuted on Silver Muse will also be added to Silver Spirit. Features include floor-to-ceiling windows, nine treatment rooms, an acupuncture suite, relaxation areas, an outdoor whirlpool, and separate men's and women's saunas and steam rooms.

In addition to the new spaces, Silver Spirit's public spaces and casino will be updated with new decor, while the enlarged pool deck also receive a new look.

"Based on the wonderful feedback from guests sailing aboard our beautiful Silver Muse, we believe the comprehensive makeover we have planned for Silver Spirit will enrich the onboard experience and be equally appreciated by guests," said Christian Sauleau, executive vice president of fleet operations for Silversea. "They will see many of Silver Muse's innovations and elevated comforts embodied by our reimagined Silver Spirit."

Passengers on Silver Spirit's May 6 cruise will be the first to see the upgrades. The seven-night sailing will depart from Rome and call at Corsica, Portofino, Cannes and Marseilles, before returning to Barcelona. The post-dry dock cruise is still open for booking; fares start at $4,900 per person if reservations are made before March 31.
