(4 p.m. EST) -- Norwegian Cruise Line is replacing its iConcierge phone app with a next-generation program called Cruise Norwegian, which offers a multitude of functions that can be used from the time of booking through disembarkation day.
Though Cruise Norwegian offers all the same functionality as iConcierge did, it goes further offering research and booking capabilities pre-cruise, and eliminating some of the wait on embarkation day vie mobile e-docs. (iConcierge launched in 2014 and only worked while cruisers were on board ship.)
"Whether they're 60 days from their sail date or in the middle of their cruise, the Cruise Norwegian app brings seamless anytime-access to a myriad of onboard offerings, services and activities right into the palms of our guests' hands," said Andy Stuart, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line.
The Cruise Norwegian app enables cruisers to preview and book shore excursions, make dining and entertainment reservations, and purchase dining, beverage and special occasion packages, before they ever set foot on their cruise ship. On embarkation day, cruisers can go paperless via a mobile online check-in process.
The app even helps cruisers get to their cruise ship by providing driving directions to the port.
Once onboard, the Cruise Norwegian app connects to the ship's Wi-Fi for free and helps cruisers stay up-to-date on what's happening on the ship. And those how didn't already make reservations for show, dinner or excursions prior to getting on their ship, can do so once onboard.
As was available with iConcierge, friends and family can stay connected onboard using the communication functionality that enables unlimited onboard calls and messaging for a one-time fee of $9.95 (per device). New, however, is the ability to share photos with everyone in their party through the group messaging piece of the app. Also new, those wishing to call home can do so through Cruise Norwegian for a fee of $0.79 per minute for outbound calls to nearly every country in the world.
Cruise Norwegian can also be used to track and review onboard purchases, as well as to look up disembarkation information including immigration and Easy Walk-Off details.
Those looking ahead to their next cruise can view information about Norwegian's Cruise Next program and review their Latitudes Rewards points to find out what benefits their eligible for.
The Cruise Norwegian app is currently available for use on sailings aboard Norwegian Sky. It will also be available onboard Norwegian Bliss when it launches in spring 2018. The app will be available fleetwide by the end of 2018.
