(2:20 p.m. AEST) -- Princess Cruises' Golden Princess celebrated the 'yes' vote of Australia's national marriage equality survey by sailing into Sydney with a massive rainbow flag.
The 24.5-metre by 18-metre banner signified support for the result on behalf of Carnival Australia's seven cruise brands including Princess. The company was lucky to get it right, with the ship arriving hours before the Australian Government's official announcement at 10 a.m.
“Carnival Australia joined with other organisations in advocating a ‘yes’ vote in the survey because we saw marriage equality as the right thing to do and a matter of fundamental fairness,” said Carnival Australia executive chairman Ann Sherry. “Our cruise lines whose ships currently host onboard weddings will soon be able to offer these ceremonies to all Australians with full equality under marriage laws.”
