(12:35 p.m. EST) -- The newest ship from Carnival Cruise Line, Carnival Horizon, competed its final sea trials in the Adriatic Sea off the coast of Italy this week.
The 3,974-passenger ship is set to launch on April 2, 2018, with an inaugural Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona. It's in the final stages of construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy.
A sister vessel to Carnival Vista, Carnival Horizon will have new features like the line's first Dr. Seuss WaterWorks aqua park, a new teppanyaki dining venue and Guy's Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse Brewery, which combines his BBQ restaurant with an onboard craft brewery.
In addition to these new additions, Carnival Horizon will have popular Carnival Vista features such as the IMAX theater, the SkyRide (where you bike through the sky on a track), Cuba-themed Havana Cabana cabins, bar and pool and the Family Harbor area that comes with its own lounge.
Carnival Horizon will make four roundtrip departures from Barcelona after its launch. The ship will then reposition to the U.S. with a two-week transatlantic crossing from Barcelona to New York on May 9, 2018. It will sail to Bermuda and the Caribbean from New York throughout summer 2018 before moving to Miami in the fall, where it will begin Caribbean cruises on Sept. 22, 2018.
