(10:30 a.m. EDT) -- Victoria's Secret model Petra Nemcova has been selected as the "guardian angel" for U by Uniworld, a new cruise line aimed at travelers ages 21 to 45.
The move is in lieu of having a godmother for the line, which is set to debut 2018, said Ellen Bettridge, president and CEO of the new line's parent company, Uniworld Boutique River Collection.
"We're making history with this concept, so rather than follow the traditional 'Godmother' path for each individual ship, we're paving our own way forward," Bettridge said in a statement. "Petra is an amazing representative of our new brand; she's smart, ambitious and has a kind, adventurous spirit. As a former Victoria's Secret model, Petra is, of course, well-versed as an 'Angel.'
Nemcova will be sailing with the brand during a four-day sneak peek cruise this October. Travel agents and influencers are being asked to compete for slots on the cruise by creating 30 second videos or photo collages on social media with the tags @ubyuniworld and #MakeHistoryWithU. The contest closes on Aug. 15, 2017; entrants must be 21 to 45.
U by Uniworld is also supporting Nemcova's charity, the Happy Hearts Fund, which the model founded after surviving the 2004 tsunami in Thailand. The non-profit works in 10 countries, helping to rebuild schools after natural disasters.
U by Uniworld will launch April 2018 with two ships, The A (formerly Uniworld's River Ambassador) and The B (formerly Uniworld's River Baroness). Both vessels will be renovated to have all-black exteriors; sleek, modern decor; communal spaces for dining and drinking; and rooftop lounges.
