(12:28 p.m. EDT) -- Cirque du Soleil fans can look forward to two production shows on MSC's newest cruise ship, MSC Meraviglia.
The line revealed that the 4,500-passenger ship, which launches June 2017 and will make its way to Miami in 2019, will feature "Viaggio," a show that will take viewers into the mind of a passionate artist, using high-tech light and color effects, and "Sonor," in which dancers, acrobats and characters will perform to bold music and sounds. Each show will span 40 minutes, and both will be available six nights a week.
Shows will take place in the Carousel Lounge, which features a 180-degree circular glass wall and high-tech sound and light capabilities. It's the first space at sea built specifically for Cirque du Soleil.
To watch the show, booked cruisers have two options: a $17 cocktail and show experience (non-drinkers can sub cocktails for non-alcoholic mixed drinks or soft drinks) or a $39 dinner and show experience, which includes a three-course meal and special pre-show entertainment. They're also required to reserve seats to the shows in advance, either ahead of their sailing or once onboard.
MSC's Meraviglia-plus-class ships, due for delivery October 2019 and September 2020, also will offer Cirque du Soleil at sea, but have their own shows (to be announced at a later date).
In addition to Cirque du Soleil at Sea, other standout features on MSC Meraviglia include a Mediterranean-style promenade with an LED "sky" that changes throughout the day, an amusement park for children and teens, and the line's first solo cabins.
