(3:45 p.m. BST) -- A dream has come true for the couple who met on the popular Channel 4 TV programme "First Dates Hotel" and vowed to take a cruise together.
Berkshire grandmother-of-four Sheila Wilson, 82, and grandfather-of-two Bev Walkden, 80, who lives in Bristol, hit it off when they appeared on the Channel 4 programme and charmed viewers with their blossoming on-screen friendship. At the end of the show Bev promised to take Sheila on a cruise and Saga Cruises has stepped in to make his wish a reality.
The cruise line for the over 50s has invited the couple to join a 12-night cruise on Saga Sapphire around the British Isles and Ireland, which will include a maiden port of call at Ilfracombe in Devon. Cruise Critic members voted Saga Sapphire the Best Small Cruise Ship for Dining in this year's Cruisers' Choice Awards.
The couple have seen each other several times since the show and Sheila said: "I went down to Bristol for Bev's birthday and we have also been to a jazz festival, but going on the Saga cruise is the icing on the cake. I'm really excited; I have always wanted to go on an ocean cruise but didn't want to go on my own.
"What's funny, though, is that we chose our shore excursions separately and found we will only be going on one together, that's the Giant's Causeway!"
As far as Bev is concerned, he said he was looking forward to a full English breakfast and enjoying the fine dining.
