Fog Delays Cruise Ships Across the Southern U.S.

February 3, 2014
Carnival-Ecstasy-Fog (Updated 12:54 p.m. EST) -- The Port of Galveston has re-opened. Passengers will embark Carnival Magic between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. CST, and departure will take place as soon as all passengers are onboard. According to Carnival Cruise Lines, the ship will operate its planned itinerary.

Caribbean Princess departed Houston yesterday at 12:30 p.m. CST and according to Princess, will replace Wednesday's scheduled stop in Roatan with a port call in Costa Maya to make up for lost time.

(February 2, 2014, 12:56 p.m. ET) -- Three cruise lines are experiencing delays due to fog in Tampa, Galveston and Houston this morning.

Carnival Legend and Norwegian Dawn arrived in Tampa a few hours later than expected. Legend arrived about 10 a.m. and Dawn at 11 a.m. Embarkation for arriving passengers has been pushed back slightly, but no itinerary changes are anticipated.

Carnival Magic, however, is still waiting for the fog to lift so it can enter Galveston. Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen said there's no word on when the ship will arrive and debarkation can begin.

Caribbean Princess, which returned to its Houston homeport early to avoid getting fogged out of port, is now fogged in. It was supposed to depart on Saturday, but due to the weather, it's currently still docked.

We will keep you posted when we hear more about the impact to Carnival Magic's and Caribbean Princess' upcoming sailings.
