Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines Mulls Swapping Oasis and Allure Dry Docks

November 13, 2013
(9:27 a.m. EST) - Royal Caribbean is considering swapping the scheduled dry docks of Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, numerous cruise industry publications report, citing comments from Richard Fain, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Propulsion problems have hampered Allure for several weeks, forcing the line to shorten port stays in Nassau and St. Thomas on Eastern Caribbean itineraries.

The reports of the possible switch can be traced to a Travel Weekly article, which quoted Fain saying the company is assessing whether it makes sense to move up the timetable for Allure's dry dock. Oasis is scheduled for a refurbishment in 2014, while Allure is on the books for 2015.

Royal Caribbean has not responded to requests from Cruise Critic for confirmation of the reports.

A little over a week ago, Cynthia Martinez, the company's director of global corporate communications told Cruise Critic, "Until a decision is made on which course of action we will take, I won't be able to provide you with additional details."
