Bad Weather Plagues Season's Last Alaska Cruises

September 25, 2013
(10:25 a.m. EDT) -- Just days after high winds forced six ships to skip port calls to Ketchikan, bad weather brought Sitka's cruise season to an abrupt end.

Local Sitka radio station KCAW reports that Holland America's Westerdam and Oosterdam will bypass Sitka today and tomorrow, respectively.

The weather forecast for both days calls for gusty winds and high seas, which make it difficult for the pilots to get on and off. Both ships canceled last week's calls to Sitka for the same reason, as well.
