More Cruise Ship Visits to Grand Turk Canceled

March 29, 2013
(3:35 p.m. EST) -- Carnival Corp. canceled more scheduled port calls to Grand Turk for three of its cruise brands. No cruise ship has stopped in Grand Turk since reports of a gastrointestinal outbreak began circulating the week of March 11.

Grand Turk Cruise Center, in partnership with Carnival and local health authorities, has been investigating the cause of the illness but has not yet been able to pinpoint a source.

As a precaution, Carnival Cruise Lines has canceled Breeze's April 1, Victory's April 4 and Liberty's April 4 calls. Instead, Breeze will visit Nassau, Victory will call on Freeport and Liberty will extend its port time in San Juan to 10 p.m. and add an extra sea day.

Ruby Princess was scheduled to call on Grand Turk on April 5 but instead will call on Nassau, though earlier in the itinerary.

Port visits by Holland America's Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam next week also have been canceled. Both ships will sail directly to the itinerary's next port of call in San Juan, arriving five hours earlier than scheduled. Tax refunds for the Grand Turk visit will be provided to passengers in the form of shipboard credit.

Decisions on port calls beyond April 5 will be made next week.
