norwegian-getaway-keel.jpg (4:30 p.m. EDT) -- Norwegian Cruise Line has laid the keel for its newest ship, Norwegian Getaway, the second ship in the line's Breakaway class.

At a ceremony Tuesday at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, line executives watched as the first of 73 blocks was lifted by crane and put in place, marking the beginning of construction on the 146,600-ton vessel, which is due to be completed in early 2014.

The 4,000-passenger ship will sail seven-night Caribbean itineraries from Miami, where it will homeport year-round.

Like its sister, Norwegian Breakaway, Getaway will feature an array of cabin options, including The Haven by Norwegian, a top-ship, 42-suite enclave; Studio cabins, the single-occupancy accommodations that debuted on Norwegian Epic; and special cabins and suites positioned around the spa.
