Murderer Arrested Onboard MSC Ship

September 8, 2012
(3:00 a.m. EDT) -- A convicted murderer who has been on the run for 13 years has been arrested on an MSC ship, reports an English language German newspaper. The 65-year-old was arrested after German authorities saw his name on the manifest list of the 92,627-ton, 2,550-passenger MSC Poesia, which had come from Norway and was visiting the German port of Kiel, according to The Local.

The unnamed man, an Austrian, did not debark as he assumed he could not be arrested as the boat was registered in Panama and so believed he was on foreign territory.

The man was convicted 13 years ago in Essen of murder, robbery and breaking gun laws, and sentenced to life in prison.

MSC has confirmed the reports but has no statement on the incident.
