Devotees of the late, lamented Renaissance Cruises’ R-class ships: Swan Hellenic, P&O Cruises’ English “country house” styled cruise line is transforming the R8 into Minerva II. The one-ship ocean liner line Swan Hellenic, known for destination-intensive voyages aboard the mid-sized Minerva, will introduce the new vessel next April. The former Renaissance ship will replace the older Minerva, which Swan Hellenic leases, and which will be returned to its owner.
The Minerva II will continue the Swan Hellenic tradition of visiting both well known -- and not so obvious -- destinations in Europe and beyond. The company says it will continue some Renaissance-style traditions, such as open seating dining (which it already offers anyway). Other features on Minerva II include solo cabins for single travelers, classical music recitals, Tai chi, guest expert speakers and local music and dance performances.
