Foreign Office Warns Britons Traveling to Egypt; Cruises Unaffected by Violence

October 11, 2011
Cairo (12:15 p.m. EDT) -- With violent clashes taking place between demonstrators and security forces in Cairo following an attack on a Coptic Christian church in southern Egypt, the British Foreign Office has issued a travel warning to Britons in the region. Britons are being warned to avoid all demonstrations and large gatherings and be prepared for delays and diversions when traveling. Sunday night's violent sectarian conflict was the worst seen in Egypt since the so-called “Arab Spring” uprisings in January and February, and further demonstrations are expected. Still, as yet, no cruise lines have reported itinerary changes. Viking River Cruises and Uniworld both have ships in the region. We'll keep you posted should anything change. --by Jamey Bergman, U.K. Web Content Manager
