Update: One Cruise Ship Impacted in Wake of Oslo Attacks

July 23, 2011

(Updated, 12:30 p.m. EDT) -- Due to the attacks in Oslo, Norway, one cruise line has decided to cut a planned port call on Saturday.

Costa Magica was scheduled to call in the Norwegian capital on Saturday, but a representative from the cruise line tells us that the ship will visit Kristiansand instead. Costa plans to resume calls to Oslo as scheduled next week.

A giant blast rocked downtown Oslo at 3:30 p.m. local time Friday, killing seven and damaging government buildings, including the prime minister's office. Shortly afterward, a gunman opened fire at a youth camp, killing dozens.

MSC Orchestra was in port at the time of the attacks and departed without incident. The cruise line provided this statement to Cruise Critic: "MSC Cruises reports that the cruise ship has not suffered any damages and that all passengers came back from excursions as planned. All guests are now safe on board and the cruise will follow its original schedule."
