Your Best Mediterranean Cruise Advice -- On a Virtual Postcard

April 12, 2010

(6:15 p.m. EDT) -- What is your favorite memory of exploring Mediterranean ports on a cruise to Europe? Perhaps it was that amazing pizzeria on a side street in Naples, where you ate the best pie of your life, surrounded by local diners. Possibly it was seeing Michelangelo's David up close in Florence or standing inside the Colosseum in Rome. Better yet, it was the tip someone gave you to visit a beautiful small church or museum, far from the madding crowds of summer's peak travel season.

Well, if you've got great advice for what to do in port on a Mediterranean cruise, Cruise Critic's Editor in Chief Carolyn Spencer Brown wants to hear it!

Carolyn's heading to the Western Mediterranean onboard Disney Magic, and will be reporting on her experiences in a daily live video blog beginning April 26. The 11-night cruise visits eight ports -- and she wants your suggestions about the best way to spend her time onshore.

Here's how to get involved: Send Carolyn a virtual postcard (i.e. post on the message boards) by Monday, April 19, with your favorite places to go and things to do in one or more -- or all! -- of the following ports:

Barcelona, Spain

Naples, Italy

Civitavecchia, Italy (for Rome)

La Spezia, Italy (for Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre, etc.)

Villefranche, France (for Monaco, French Riviera)

To keep things simple, please tailor your suggestions to the following three topics (suggestions can be, but do not need to be, kid-friendly):

Best must-see attraction

Favorite hidden gem or off-the-beaten-path attraction

Best place for an authentic local lunch

Carolyn will choose her favorite tips to incorporate into her own itinerary and will talk about her experiences in these ports in her daily video blog. So don't forget to check the Cruise Critic homepage come April 26 to hear all about Carolyn's travels when Disney Cruise Line returns to Europe. Magic's crossing the Atlantic at this very moment....
