Suspects Detained on Carnival Ship

September 14, 2001
Repercussions from Tuesday's tragic attacks go beyond the airlift problem plaguing the cruise industry. Early Friday morning -- about 3 a.m. -- the U.S. Coast Guard boarded Carnival's Fascination off the coast of Miami and detained two people. These passengers, according to reports, have "a history of hijacking." The two were turned over to the FBI when the ship returned to Miami at about 5 a.m. After questioning by the Immigration and Naturalization Service the men were released.
