Straw Market Destroyed

The Straw Market, one of Nassau’s major tourist attractions, has been destroyed by fire and the Bahamas government has declared the site a national disaster. The market, located in the heart of Nassau’s shopping district, was a bustling place where Bahamians sold mostly tourist trinkets and souvenir gear. Cause of the fire is suspected to be arson and a handful of other buildings lining Bay Street were also damaged. However, there were no fatalities or injuries.
