Cruise Critic Selects Winner in MSC Cruise Giveaway!

April 7, 2008
Three weeks, 11 trivia questions and one sophisticated Italian godmother later, Cruise Critic is pleased to announce the Grand Prize winner of "MSC Cruises' Winter in the Mediterranean Treasure Hunt & Cruise Giveaway."

And the winner is....

Theresa Wagner of Monticello, New York!

Though over 500 of nearly 2,000 participants correctly submitted the winning phrase (Sophia Loren), only one lucky person was selected at random to receive a free cruise for two to the Mediterranean onboard MSC Poesia or MSC Fantasia; 21 First Prize winners have also been selected at random to receive MSC T-shirts -- one for each day of the three-week contest.

Wagner plans to take the trip with her daughter, who's off to college for the first time this fall -- a cruise will be the perfect mother-daughter bonding experience during that transitional period.

"I'm so excited I am shaking!" Wagner responded to our initial notification e-mail. A testament to our diverse audience of both junkies and first-timers, she tells us she has never been on a cruise before -- although it is something she has always wanted to do.

"I just joined the Cruise Critic community recently but reading the articles written on cruises really made me want to go on one myself especially after this long, cold winter here in New York. The Mediterranean is amazing. I was there in 1995 visiting the South of France and also the Italian Riviera. Monaco was beautiful as was Cannes, Nice and St. Tropez.

"It was a very pleasant surprise to win the cruise from you. I am looking forward to going. It is sure to be a great experience."

Didn't win? You can still get behind the scenes with MSC in Europe. The line's latest ship -- MSC Poesia -- was launched in a special midnight christening ceremony in Dover this weekend, starring Andrea Bocelli, KT Tunstall and (of course) godmother Sophia Loren.
