Celebrity’s Infinity, which had to cancel two 7-day Alaska cruises this month due to a faulty mechanical problem, has arrived at the Victoria Shipyard, on Vancouver Island. A spokeswoman says repairs are on schedule and the ship is expected to resume sailing, as planned, on Friday, June 22.
What’s taking so long? The repairs themselves, she said, only require five days but the cruise line had to build in extra time because Victoria was the only shipyard in the region that could accommodate up to 100,000 tons (Infinity squeaked in at 91,000 tons). Not only did the shipyard have to build a keel for Infinity, it also had to move other vessels, including a Navy ship, out of the way.
