P&O Cancels Aurora's World Cruise

January 20, 2005

U.K.-based P&O Cruises has abruptly canceled its 103-day world cruise on Aurora, just as it had finally gotten started. Aurora was already 10 days late getting underway for its world cruise, having undergone repairs because of technical problems with the propulsion system. Tests conducted at sea last night revealed that the fix wasn't enough to allow the ship to achieve its required speed for a world cruise itinerary.

Aurora is on its way back to its berth at Southampton. Passengers will disembark Friday and are being offered, as a make-good, a measly 25 percent future cruise credit in addition to a full refund.

The ship will be out of commission for the near future though a company statement says P&O anticipates Aurora will be able to resume its regular post-Grand Voyage schedule in April.
