One of the oft-unpleasant realities of cruising -- for people who either have to or want to travel solo and don't want a roommate -- is the dreaded single supplement (those great deals "$499 for seven-day Caribbean!" turn out to be pretty pricey splurges on lines that charge single travelers as much as double for their own cabin). But one travel agent, Geneva, Illinois-based Victoria Lantz, of cruiseone.com, is carving out a unique niche: she negotiates, primarily with Celebrity and Royal Caribbean (which both normally have a 200 percent single occupancy rate) to offer select voyages with either a minimal or nonexistent single supplement. Some are last minute; others aren't.
Examples? A 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise on March 23 on Celebrity Galaxy is $801.50 for an inside cabin ($951.50 for outside) and a 7-night Royal Caribbean Mexican Riviera on Rhapsody of the Seas trip is $764.05; available dates are January 28, February 4 and February 11. Want to know more? Call Lantz at 888-644-9949, www.cruiseone.com/vlantz. Ask to be included on her nifty weekly emails about solo cruiser deals.
