True North Cruises Tips, Activities, and Overview

Who goes on True North cruise ships?

About 90% of passengers who sail with True North Adventure Cruises hail from Australia, with some coming from New Zealand the rest coming from overseas -- particularly the U.S. and Europe. It's a decidedly adult experience; the vast majority of those onboard are between the ages of 55 and 75 and have deep pockets. These cruises are strenuous, and people with severe mobility challenges will find the pace and activities difficult. Children are a rare sight.

Do I have to dress up on a True North cruise?

No. True North Adventure Cruises maintains a casual atmosphere and even has a "no shoes onboard" policy. In the evening, however, smart casual is advised (no shorts or T-shirts) -- but still, no shoes.

Is everything free on True North cruises?

No. Your cruise fare includes all adventure boat excursions and land-based activities, all dining and nonalcoholic refreshments throughout the day, as well as all fishing and snorkeling equipment and cylinders and weight belts for dive trips. On some itineraries, transfers to and/or from the ship are provided.

Extra costs will include alcoholic beverages, scenic helicopter flights, visitor pass fees and any purchases made onboard or in the gift shop. Corkage fees will be applied to any alcoholic beverages brought onboard.

What are True North’s most popular activities?

Cruisers choose True North Adventure Cruises for its robust expedition-style exploration, and it's rare for someone to skip one of the many daily excursions -- even those that sometimes start at the crack of dawn. Activities are strongly geared toward the environment in which the ship is exploring and could include snorkeling, game fishing, diving, glass-bottom boat excursions, hiking, off-ship picnics and wildlife spotting. The educational lectures are always well attended, and most passengers opt for a sightseeing helicopter flight at least once (though they do cost extra).

Why go with True North?

  • Offers expedition cruises around the Australian coastline, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea
  • Activity-based itineraries with no sea days
  • Carries a helicopter fulltime for even more adventurous exploring

Best for: Adventurous and active explorers with deep pockets looking to explore Australia's west coast and beyond

Not for: Budget minded travelers, anyone who wants to spend time relaxing onboard a ship

True North, what an experience. It would have to be the best cruise we have experienced. Captain Gav and his crew were "Simply the Best!!" Treated us like family.

Fist one was when the tender boat took us up to the waterfalls and those mad enough sat on the front of the boat and enjoyed a shower - then, Captain Gav.Then if you just want to experience the beauty of the gorges and waterfalls you've got it, either by tender boats or the helicopter with Sam your pilot.Read More

It is not always about luxury.

The manner in which this event was managed by the crew of True North was exemplary, and assured me that should I be unfortunate to experience something similar, then my well-being would be in excellent hands. He immediately radioed the ship and commenced a return to True North and requested assistance.Read More
