(5:33 p.m. EDT) -- Crystal Cruises' Crystal Symphony became the first cruise ship to set sail from Boston in nearly two years as it departed the city's Flynn Cruiseport Boston terminal on Monday.

Crystal Symphony is operating four seven-night sailings to Bermuda from Boston under one hundred percent vaccination mandates against COVID-19. The inaugural voyage was postponed by one day due to Hurricane Henri, which passed over the eastern seaboard yesterday.

The first ship to set sail from Boston in nearly two years, Crystal Symphony welcomed its first passengers onboard in nearly 18 months. The ship will continue to sail Crystal's new "Luxury Bermuda Escapes" weeklong voyages into September, when it moves south to sail from New York's Manhattan Cruise Terminal to debut voyages to Bermuda on Fridays beginning September 24, 2021.

“We are delighted Crystal Symphony has returned to service as the first cruise ship to restart cruising from Boston, now bound for the pink sands of Bermuda,” said Jack Anderson, president of Crystal. “This day is the culmination of months of anticipation and behind-the-scenes planning to ensure safe and meaningful travel experiences for our guests as we welcome them back home to Crystal. We are confident they are going to love the history, culture and abundant outdoor pursuits Bermuda offers, knowing that both Crystal’s and Bermuda’s stringent health protocols are in place to provide a safe and enjoyable experience.”

Crystal Symphony had originally been slated to return to service on roundtrip voyages from Antigua and St. Maarten, but those plans were cancelled in favor of operating sailings from the United States.

The debut of Crystal Symphony in Boston was the second noteworthy cruise departure in the Northeast to set sail over the past 24 hours. On Sunday, Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas became the first major ship to sail from the New York area as it departed Bayonne, New Jersey bound for the Bahamas.
