(4:30 p.m. EST) -- Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection has suspended its river cruises through June 30, 2020.
"Service is simply a part of our DNA," the Uniworld President and CEO Ellen Bettridge said in a letter sent to cruisers. "It's who we are and one of the reasons that you have entrusted us with your time, your most valuable asset. It is also why we must share difficult news with you today. We have been closely monitoring the world's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and given recent news, we do not believe we can continue to offer the award-winning Uniworld experience you have come to expect and deserve at this time."
Cruisers on canceled sailings may immediately rebook for any time in 2020 or 2021, or they will receive a future cruise credit that can be used during the next 24 months. Those booked on impacted itineraries will be contacted by a Uniworld representative or their travel advisor to go over their options.
The line also updated its cancellation policy; anyone booked on a sailing after June 30, 2020, can cancel up to 14 days prior to their cruise and rebook on any 2020 or 2021 cruise without penalty. Alternatively, they can rebook with one of Uniworld's The Travel Corporation sister companies.

"Beyond service, there is something else a hundred years in travel has taught us: resilience. We know this industry -- which has weathered many difficult times over the last century -- is strong because we're in it together. We all believe in the power of travel; its potential to open borders, connect cultures and drive local economies. Let us not forget that during these next days; we will all be better for it."
Uniworld was the fourth cruise line to announce a temporary cessation of operations in early March, while lines around the world subsequently followed suit.

(4:55 p.m. EDT) -- Virgin Voyages introduced a series of new itineraries for its second modern cruise ship, Valiant Lady, for the 2021 cruise season.

After debuting in the Mediterranean next year, Valiant Lady will join sister-ship Scarlet Lady in the Caribbean for the 2021-2022 winter season. The ship will also inaugurate a series of new Caribbean itineraries for Virgin, including six- and eight-night sailings along with two brand-new destinations in the Caribbean.

Beginning in November 2021, Valiant Lady will offer six-night voyages roundtrip from Miami that call on Roatan, Honduras; Costa Maya, Mexico; and Virgin's own Beach Club at Bimini in the Bahamas.

Photos From Paul Gauguin: Cruising Has Resumed In Tahiti

(11:50 a.m. EDT) -- After a false start this summer, Paul Gauguin has resumed cruising in Tahiti and the South Pacific -- and Cruise Critic has some pictures to prove it.

Elaine Fiorina, of Rancho Mirage, California, is onboard the vessel as it sails the Society Islands on a weeklong cruise from Tahiti. She's one of 54 passengers onboard the ship, which can usually hold 350 guests.

It's the third sailing with international passengers from the single-ship line, which was bought by the French cruise company Ponant last year. Synonymous with South Pacific cruising, Paul Gauguin had started cruising with local residents in mid-July after French Polynesia developed strict testing criteria f

Carnival Sells Fascination, Delays Restart of Four Other Cruise Ships Into 2021

(11:25 a.m. EDT) -- Carnival Cruise Line today confirmed the sale of Carnival Fascination, along with sister-ship Carnival Imagination, and announced further suspension of sailings for four other ships until after their scheduled 2021 drydocks.

The 1994-built Carnival Fascination had until recently made its homeport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where it sailed weeklong voyages to the eastern and southern Caribbean. While a buyer wasn't announced, it is expected the ship will be sold to shipbreakers in Turkey.

Sister-ship Carnival Imagination, built in 1995, arrived this week off Aliaga, Turkey where it will be run aground for final demolition. The ship had been based for several years in

'The Guests Are Very Happy:' Costa Cruises Talks About Successful Restart

(10:55 a.m. EDT) -- With one cruise already successfully complete and a second underway, Costa Cruises is proving that big ships can get back out on the water without a COVID-19 outbreak, thanks to strict health and safety protocols.

The Italian line follows MSC Cruises, which also began sailing in Italy last month. Currently, one ship, Costa Deliziosa, is sailing, with a second, Costa Diadema , to begin September 19. Only Italian nationals are on the first cruises, with the sailings to open to more nationalities at the end of September. The line is the first of Carnival Corporation's brands to resume sailing since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
