(3:10 EST) – Carnival Cruise Line will redeploy 2,056-passenger Carnival Fascination to Mobile in early 2022, replacing Carnival Fantasy.
Carnival Fascination, which currently homeports in San Juan, will begin sailing four- and five-day voyages out of Mobile, beginning January 16, 2022.
"Carnival Fascination will bring some exciting new features to the Mobile market, including a greater variety of balcony accommodations, a Bonsai Sushi Express venue, the cocktail pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar and a Cherry On Top sweets shop," said Fred Stein, Carnival's vice president of revenue planning and deployment, in a statement.
"We have worked with the Mobile community over the last several years to successfully build demand and create this opportunity for a newer ship to enter the market."
Carnival Fascination's 2022 sailings from Mobile open for booking February 19. Plans for Carnival Fantasy -- the line's oldest ship, built in 1990 -- will be announced at a later date.
Carnival Fascination, which entered service in 1994, had been based in San Juan, operating cruises to the Southern and Eastern Caribbean. Carnival said it will continue to assess whether another vessel will be deployed to San Juan for 2022.
