(8:55 a.m. EST) -- Passengers in the new Officer's Suite on Windstar Cruises' flagship sailing ship, Wind Surf, can expect extra time with the ship's officers. That's because the suite is located in the same private area where the ship's captain, chief officer, hotel manager and chief engineer stay.

The nautically appointed ocean-view suite is directly behind the schooner's bridge, in an area marked "crew only."

Windstar also has an open bridge policy, meaning all cruisers are free to visit the bridge.

The 242-square-foot Officer's Suite has a bedroom, living room area with wide-screen TV and a full bathroom with Jacuzzi tub. The suite's decor includes a sextant, a museum-quality model of a J-class sailing ship and binoculars. Stays in the suite are from $3,599 per person for a one-week Yachtsman's Caribbean sailing in the fall.

Wind Surf was updated during a dry dock in fall 2019, with all public rooms and staterooms receiving updates. Sixteen cabins were added, increasing the ship's capacity from 310 to 342 passengers. Additional crew accommodations were also added.

The ship also boasts a new state-of-the-art World Spa by Windstar, run by One Spa World, and features regionally inspired treatments.
