Hurtigruten will sell more than 40 “Bushfire Appeal” cabins to raise funds for the recovery of Australia's habitat, wildlife and communities affected by the ongoing fires.
Ranging from standard to suite, the cabins have a combined value of more than AU$250,000, with 100 per cent of the proceeds to be distributed by the Hurtigruten Foundation.
The Hurtigruten Foundation supports conservation, environmental and community projects in the areas where Hurtigruten operates, but an exception has been made for Australia, where the company does not operate any cruises.
“The impact of these bushfires is unprecedented. It is heartbreaking to witness the loss of life, as well as the devastation of habitat and wildlife on such a scale," said Damian Perry, Managing Director Hurtigruten Asia-Pacific. "We believe it is important that we all take part in the global and local effort to support Australia’s recovery.”
Hurtigruten acknowledges "there is a direct correlation between the extremes of these fires and the impact of climate change on the environment", Perry added.
