(10 a.m. GMT) -- P&O Cruises has revealed Take That’s frontman Gary Barlow as the line’s Musical Director and a brand ambassador.As Musical Director, Gary will be coming aboard the new ship Iona when it launches later this year. Further details will be announced at a media event at St. Luke’s London Symphony Orchestra this evening (15 January).The line confirmed that comedian Rob Brydon’s role as “Hugh” in the long-running TV ad campaigns remains unchanged.Iona is P&O Cruises' biggest ship yet and has a number of well-known names already associated with it including Marco Pierre White, Eric Lanlard and Alex James, formerly of Blur and now a cheese expert. The 5,200-passenger, which launches in May, will also be the first powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).Gary Barlow is one of the UK's most successful musicians and during his career he has written 15 Number one singles, won six Ivor Novello Awards, eight BRIT awards, sold over 45 million records worldwide and over eight million concert tickets.

Aside from his achievements with Take That, he has also co-written and produced music for other renowned artists including Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Elton John and Robbie Williams. Gary also works on theatrical productions and has composed the score for "Finding Neverland" and worked alongside screenwriter Tim Firth to write the music and lyrics for musical "The Girls" and also more recently working alongside his bandmates Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Robbie Williams to produce ‘The Band’ a record breaking musical featuring the music of Take That.P&O Cruises president, Paul Ludlow, said: "We are immensely proud to have someone of Gary’s stature and talent working with us as brand ambassador and we look forward to revealing more exciting details on Gary’s role very soon."
