Princess Modifies Crown Princess Sailings Due to Generator Issue

(Updated February 6, 8:13 a.m. EST) -- Princess Cruises has made changes to four upcoming voyages aboard the 3,080-passenger Crown Princess due to ongoing issues with the ship's generator.

"On the morning of Thursday, December 26, while Crown Princess was underway to Port Everglades, Florida, a diesel generator onboard was taken out of service due to a technical issue," spokeswoman Negin Kamali told Cruise Critic. "Full assessments and repairs to this power generating unit will be ongoing in the coming weeks. This in no way affects the safety of our guests and crew, which is always our highest priority, but it does restrict our ability to operate at full speed."

As a result, Princess Cruises has altered four upcoming sailings of Crown Princess.

They are:

January 16 sailing: The call to Princess Cays originally scheduled for January 17 has been canceled, and the call on Charlotte Amalie (St. Thomas) on January 19 will begin and end one hour earlier -- 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. rather than 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The visit to Kralendijk (Bonaire) will be pushed back an hour -- 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. instead of noon to 10 p.m.

January 26: The January 26 sailing of Crown Princess will see four changes. The call to St. John's (Antigua and Barbuda) has been shortened; originally scheduled for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the ship will now visit from noon to 7 p.m. The Castries port of call on January 30 will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. instead of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., while the visit to Basseterre (St. Kitts) will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. instead of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the departure time from Charlotte Amalie on February 2 will now be 3 p.m. instead of 4 p.m.

February 5: The February 5 sailing also will see four changes, the most significant being the cancellation of the ship's visit to St. George's (Grenada), originally scheduled for February 10. The call to Willemstad (Curacao) has been shortened and will now visit from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. instead of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The departure times for the Kralendijk and Charlotte Amalie have been changed as well -- 6 p.m. instead of 2 p.m. in Kralendijk and 3 p.m. instead of 4 p.m. in Charlotte Amalie.

February 15: The February 15 sailing wiill see five changes to its itinerary starting with the cancellation of its scheduled visit to Princess Cays. Additionally, the call on Charlotte Amalie (St. Thomas) on February 18 will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. instead of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; the call on Bridgetown (Barbados) on February 20 will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. instead of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; the call on Castries (St. Lucia) will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. instead of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and the call on Basseterre (St. Kitts) will be 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. instead of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Princess hasn't indicated that any additional voyages aboard Crown Princess will be impacted outside of those listed above.
