(6:30 a.m. GMT) -- Saga Cruises has today revealed plans for a new-build 190-passenger river ship, Spirit of the Rhine, that will debut in spring 2021.
Spirit of the Rhine will feature 95 17-square metre cabins, nearly all with a French balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows. There’ll be a lounge with bar, a separate library, a gym, a main restaurant and a reservation-only venue featuring show cooking. Outside there will be a large sun deck, jacuzzi, barbecue and seating area.
The ship, which will be built at the Dutch shipyard Vahali, will sail the Rhine, Moselle, Main and Danube rivers, as well as Holland’s waterways.
All sailings will include free Wi-Fi, wine, beer and soft drinks with lunch and dinner, gratuities, three shore excursions per weeklong sailing and transfers.
Robin Shaw, CEO Saga Travel, said: “I am delighted to announce that we are using our experience in ocean cruising to design a bespoke ship for those guests who want a luxurious, boutique river cruise experience.
“This launch of Spirit of the Rhine heralds a step change in the future of river cruising and when it comes to the onboard experience, our boutique approach to cruising will ensure that our guests have an experience that combines unrivalled, first class service with bespoke authentic experiences that are tailored just for them.”
Saga Cruises welcomed its first new-build ocean ship, the 999-passenger Spirit of Discovery in July 2019, which was christened by HRH, The Duchess of Cornwall in Dover. The line’s next new ship, the identical Spirit of Adventure, will debut in July 2020.
Spirit of the Rhine sailings will be released on December 2, 2019.
