(7 a.m. EDT) -- Virgin Voyages passengers who have the line's mobile app will be able to order Champagne for delivery on-demand, with a shake of their phone and the press of a button. The service will be available when the line's first ship, Scarlet Lady, launches in 2020.
The service, called "Shake for Champagne," works when thirsty cruisers shake their phones while the Virgin Voyages Sailor App is open. When the phone is shaken, you'll hear the telltale sound of a cork popping, and a Champagne graphic will fill the screen, accompanied by a pouring and a gentle fizzing noise.
The simulated liquid dissipates, showing a "Push Me" button and the words "Save Water, Drink Champagne." When you push the button, a 750 ml bottle of Moet Chandon Imperial Champagne is delivered in a shiny Virgin-branded red Champagne bucket, along with two glasses, for $95.
"There's nothing more luxurious than having Champagne at your beck and call or even a shake," said Nathan Rosenberg, CMO of Virgin Voyages. "We are committed to creating the world's most irresistible travel brand, so we thought long and hard about how to help cruisers effortlessly get a sip of bubbly during their voyage, and presto: Shake for Champagne was conjured up!"
Shake for Champagne isn't the only bubbly planned for the new ship; Virgin Voyages revealed that Scarlet Lady will also be home to Sip, a Champagne lounge and caviar bar. Designed to mimic the effervescence of the beverage it features, Sip will have a marble bar and tabletops, as well as deep blue, gold and rose-pink colors throughout.
Sip customers can purchase Champagne by the glass from $9 or buy bottles of bubbly, including vintage Champagne bottles that cost up to $1,000. In addition to Champagne, Sip will offer an afternoon high tea as a nod to Virgin Voyages' British heritage.
