(2:01 p.m. EDT) Celebrity Cruises has announced plans to redeploy Celebrity Constellation from routes in Asia to the Port of Tampa for the Winter 2020 season. The decision marks Celebrity's first return to Tampa since 2007.
"Our guests and travel advisors have been asking us to return to Tampa since our last call there in 2007," said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises. "While Celebrity Cruises' fleet is undergoing a massive modernization with 'The Celebrity Revolution,' the beautiful city of Tampa is also experiencing quite a renaissance."
From the Port of Tampa, Celebrity Constellation will sail a variety of longer 10- and 11-night voyages to the Caribbean.
Three itineraries are on offer, including:
All three itineraries will begin following a 14-night Transatlantic crossing from Barcelona.
Celebrity Constellation will undergo a major transformation in May of 2020 as part of the line's Celebrity Revolution program, which seeks to add features and reimagined spaces to existing vessels to allow them to better compare with Celebrity Edge, which debuted last winter.
There are also changes in store for the Port of Tampa, with the city planning a number of enhancements that include a $3 billion transformation of the downtown waterfront district that adds new retail shops, offices, homes, hotels, and cultural and educational spaces. The city has also completed the Tampa Riverwalk, which runs near the city's cruise terminals.
"We are very excited to welcome Celebrity Cruises to the Tampa Bay market," said Paul Anderson, president of Port Tampa Bay. "In 2020, Celebrity Cruises will offer a variety of itineraries from Tampa that will include stops at exotic locations in southern and eastern Caribbean. The addition of this premium brand to the explosive growth that Tampa Bay is experiencing will add an extraordinary adventure to the many choices vacationers have in Tampa Bay."
Celebrity Constellation will sail throughout the Middle East and Asia for the Winter 2019 season before repositioning to Europe for the Summer of 2020.
