Here's Where Cruise Lines Are Sailing Instead Of Cuba

On June 4, the Trump administration announced travel restrictions that stopped cruise ships from visiting Cuba, effective immediately. Some cruises were already in Cuba, or en route to its ports, leaving cruise lines scrambling to accommodate passengers. 

One month later, the travel ban is still in effect. These are the destinations that cruise lines are calling on to replace Cuba. (Some itineraries are still awaiting comment.)

Azamara

Azamara has not announced Cuba itinerary replacements at this time for those sailings onboard Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest.

Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival's calls to Cuba were replaced with visits to Key West, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios, Princess Cays, Half Moon Cay and Bermuda. Depending on the voyage, these ports serve as either a singular replacement port for Cuba, or as part of an entirely new itinerary.

Holland America Line

All of Holland America's Cuba itineraries were onboard Veendam. Now, Veendam's replacement Cuba itineraries include a series of seven-day Caribbean cruises, sailing between October 2019 and April 2020. The replacement ports include Key West, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios and Half Moon Cay.

Holland America is also offering three unique seven-day Caribbean itineraries on Veendam that depart on November 27, 2019, January 29, 2020 and March 25, 2020; those ports include a combination of Cozumel, Nassau, San Juan, St. Thomas and Amber Cove, as well as the aforementioned ports.

MSC Cruises

MSC Armonia's 2019 itineraries remain out of Miami, replacing Havana with either Costa Maya, Cozumel, George Town, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios or Montego Bay. Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the line's private island in the Bahamas that opens in November 2019, will also replace Havana as a Caribbean port of call starting this winter. Key West and Falmouth will become two more of Armonia's regular stops starting in 2020.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian's former Cuba itineraries onboard Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Sun will include Nassau, Key West, Great Stirrup Cay and Freeport in lieu of Havana.

Oceania Cruises

Oceania has altered all of its Cuba-intensive itineraries for the remainder of 2019 and early 2020 to Eastern or Western Caribbean itineraries. Some of the replacement Caribbean destinations include Key West; Harvest Caye, Roatan, Costa Maya, Grand Cayman, San Juan, Great Stirrup Cay and Santa

Marta, Colombia, along with other ports in the West Indies.

Oceania's Sirena was scheduled to sail Cuba voyages in the latter half of 2020 and 2021; that ship will now remain in Europe for fall 2020 to sail Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Arabia, India and Myanmar over the winter.

Pearl Seas Cruises

Pearl Seas has not announced Cuba itinerary replacements at this time. The line, a subsidiary of American Cruise Line, has refocused on Canada and the Great Lakes.

Ponant

Ponant has not announced Cuba itinerary replacements at this time.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Regent has not announced Cuba itinerary replacements at this time. Regent became the first North American luxury line to sail to when Seven Seas Mariner set sail in April 2017. Havana was listed on a spring 2020 voyage of Seven Seas Navigator, along with a more immersive Cuba itinerary onboard Seven Seas Mariner, -- calling on Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba -- which was scheduled to sail this October.

Royal Caribbean International

Royal Caribbean replaced Havana calls onboard Empress of the Seas and Majesty of the Seas with Costa Maya and the line's private Bahamian island, Perfect Day at CocoCay. Other Caribbean destinations include Cozumel, Costa Maya, Key West, Belize and San Juan.

Seabourn Cruise Line

Seabourn Sojourn was slated to sail to Cuba beginning in November. Seabourn's ports of call replacing the Caribbean nation include San Juan, Martinique, Curacao; Port Antonio in Jamaica, Key West, Isla Catalina (Dominican Republic), along with multiple ports in both the U.S. and British Virgin Islands.

Viking Cruises

Viking has not yet announced which ports will replace Cuba; the line has one remaining call scheduled to Cuba for December 2019, as well as some early 2020 sailings.

Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages replaced Cuba sailings with new Riviera Maya cruises and four-night "Fire and Sunset Soirees" cruises to Key West that also offer enhanced Beach Club programming in Bimini.
