(12:50 p.m. EDT) -- Norwegian Cruise Line opened sales for 2020 cruises on three of its ships -- Norwegian Spirit, Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Jade -- and the scheduled voyages are intended to be destination-immersive and port-intensive. The itineraries include four new ports, including a first-time homeport in Athens, Greece.

After an extensive refurbishment in January 2020, Norwegian Spirit will sail a series of nine- to 15-night itineraries throughout Asia from May 2020 to December 2020. The voyages include four new ports -- Beppu, Kumamoto, Niigata and Nagoya, Japan -- with overnights in Tokyo and Kyoto in Japan, and Shanghai and Hong Kong in China. Passengers will also have a chance to witness the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in July and August.

Norwegian Sun ends a three-year hiatus from Alaska, joining fellow Norwegian ships Bliss, Joy and Jewel in the region in May 2020. Sun's itineraries include nine- to 12-night cruises out of Seattle, calling on Sitka, Glacier Bay, Hubbard Glacier, Holkham Bay, Juneau and Ketchikan as well as Victoria, British Columbia.

Since 2018, Sun included a shipwide free open bar, but will no longer offer that perk on its Alaska voyages.

In September 2020, Norwegian Jade will offer 10- to 11-night, one-way Greek Isles, Italy and Mediterranean cruises. The itineraries either start from or end in Barcelona, Venice or Athens -- the latter being a new homeport for Norwegian. Ports of call include Monte Carlo, Florence, Rome, Naples, Santorini, Mykonos and more.
