(11:25 a.m. EDT) -- Celebrity Cruises' parent company, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., had ordered a fifth Edge-class cruise ship with French shipbuilder Chantiers de l'Atlantique. The ship is scheduled for delivery in fall 2024.

The first in the series, Celebrity Edge, debuted in late 2018 with an innovative design featuring a "floating" deck called the Magic Carpet, which does double duty as a tender station or bar depending on its location. Another hallmark of the class are the "Infinite Verandah" cabins, where one section of the room easily transforms from a balcony to an indoor lounge area.

The previously announced, additional Edge-class ships will debut in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

"Edge class made an immediate hit with Celebrity Cruises guests and is a state-of-the-art example of technical excellence and elegant design," said Richard D. Fain, Royal Caribbean's chairman and CEO, in a statement. "We can't wait to build the next one."

Royal Caribbean and Chantiers de l'Atlantique have a longstanding relationship. The fifth Edge-class ship will be the ninth ship built for Celebrity Cruises at this shipyard and the 24th for the entire Royal Caribbean family.
