(7:30 p.m. EDT) -- Luxury cruise line Seabourn pulled the curtain back on its new expedition fleet today at the 35th annual Seatrade cruise conference in Miami Beach, releasing the first-ever renderings of the ships' public spaces.

Designer Adam D. Tihany, who oversaw interiors for Seabourn's last two ships, Encore and Ovation, is in charge of all indoor and outdoor guest areas on the two new purpose-built expedition ships, set to debut in June 2021 and May 2022, respectively.

In addition to Seabourn's traditional focal point, the atrium, three new public spaces were showcased for attendees of the Seatrade press conference. Each will be designed to create a sense of community for expedition travelers, integrating details and materials that are both tactile and rugged while maintaining luxury and comfort.

"When you conjure up images of the ideal adventure trip, you would head out into the stunning wilderness for the day knowing that when you return a cozy, welcoming space filled with luxurious materials like leathers and rich woods that invites relaxation and conversation awaits you," said Seabourn's president Richard Meadows. "Each of these newly designed spaces hits that note perfectly, leaving our guests wanting for nothing."

The Expedition Lounge, located on Deck 4, serves as the heart of the ship, expected to be a gathering place for guests as they share photos and stories from the day with their fellow travelers and the onboard staff.  The lounge will have custom furniture designed in warm, natural materials with an etched glass partition displaying a vintage map of Antarctica and vitrines showcasing intricate tools and devices of the trade.  Two large touchscreens will display photos, navigational charts, weather charts, and maps.

Next door, the Discovery Center acts as the teaching and academic center for natural history and cultural programming, in an environment spacious enough to accommodate all 264 guests at one time. Each day, the venue will be home to lectures, briefings and enrichment programming designed to help educate guests throughout their expedition.

A 26-person team of wilderness experts, scientists, historians and naturalists will deliver lectures and discussions on a broad array of topics related to the region where guests are sailing, utilizing 33-foot-wide high-definition screens to review footage from the day's adventures.

Two Landing Zones, located both port and starboard on Deck 3, will provide direct access to the ships' 24 Zodiacs for off-ship excursions. Almost 200 square feet in size, the rooms will allow guests to change and clean their gear in comfort while also providing space to store rubber boots. Commonly known as mud rooms, the Landing Zones have been designed for extreme functionality and accessibility with a durable material palette and optimum location on the ship. For tropical sailings, the Landing Zones also will be used for snorkeling and similar activities, with storage space for fins and masks.

The news comes one month after Seabourn revealed the name of its first expedition ship, Seabourn Venture. Additional details about Seabourn's new expedition ships will continue to be revealed, and itineraries and booking availability will be released in mid-2019.
