(11:55 a.m. EST) -- The sixth ship in Viking Ocean Cruises' fleet, Viking Jupiter, was officially delivered to the line today at the Fincantieri shipyard in Alcona, Italy. Like its nearly identical fleetmates, the 930-passenger ship will operate destination-intensive cruises and include several perks in its fare.
Viking Jupiter will sail a mix of Mediterranean and Northern Europe itineraries during its maiden season; the ship will be christened in June 2019, in Oslo, Norway. In late 2019, it will reposition to South America -- a new destination for Viking -- to offer cruises between Buenos Aires and Santiago.
Highlights of Viking Ocean Cruises' fleet include complimentary shore excursions, Wi-Fi, specialty restaurants and beer and wine at lunch and dinner; all-balcony cabins; a main pool and an aft infinity pool; and an expansive spa with a free-to-use thermal suite that features a sauna and snow grotto.
Viking Ocean Cruises is the ocean arm of Viking Cruises, which also includes the popular river cruise line, Viking River Cruises. The line has options to build 10 new ships with Fincantieri between 2021 and 2027, and two "special" ships with Fincantieri subsidiary Vard in 2021 and 2022.
