(12:15 p.m. EST) -- In preparation for the 2019 hotel barge-cruising (canal-cruising) season, European Waterways is updating its entire fleet -- redesigning interior spaces, modernizing bathrooms, and adding enhanced features to outdoor decks.

European Waterways' refurbishment program will inject more than £400,000 (roughly $526,000) into all its ships. The line invests in routine upgrades every winter, ahead of the season, which runs from April to October.

"The company's ongoing collaboration with Britain's Marion Falchi Interiors, which specializes in luxury residential interiors, will ensure that a more contemporary style is 'married smoothly with traditional features' to meet the high standards of luxury, comfort and convenience that guests aboard our vessels have come to expect," said European Waterways' managing director Derek Banks.

"Our annual upgrade programs are all about guaranteeing the utmost comfort for our guests," said Banks. "We believe that this level of luxury should be apparent across every aspect of our cruise experience."

Several of the upgrades already have been completed. Among them are newly designed cabins on L'Impressionniste; a new saloon bar on Enchante; revamped en suite bathrooms on Spirit of Scotland, Scottish Highlander and Finesse; a new spa pool on the top deck of La Bella Vita; and sun canopies to increase shaded lounging space on La Belle Epoque.

Six-night cruise fares include all transfers, meals, an open bar, fine wines, shore excursions and the use of bicycles stored onboard. Solo travelers can take advantage of a limited-time offer of up to 20 percent off charters and cabin prices on spring 2019 cruises throughout Europe, as well as a waived single supplement on select ships.
