(12 p.m. EST) -- Royal Caribbean is gearing up for the launch of Perfect Day at CocoCay -- a transformation of the line's popular private island in the Bahamas -- scheduled to open in May 2019. The island will unveil several new amenities, including the Oasis Lagoon, the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean; Captain Jack's Galleon, a water play area with slides, a geyser, and water cannons; and Splashaway Bay aquapark.
Perfect Day at CocoCay is part of the line's new Perfect Day Island Collection, which also will involve the development of destinations in Asia, Australia and elsewhere in the Caribbean, as Cruise Critic reported in May 2018. The line is already in the process of acquiring land for additional Perfect Day private islands, president Michael Bayley reportedly revealed this week at a Travel Weekly Executive Lunch.
According to the Travel Weekly article, Bayley said: "We have been busy acquiring land around the world and each one will have a slightly different concept, depending on what each market’s idea of a perfect day is."
Many of the amenities on Perfect Day at CocoCay will be free. Passengers will need to pay for extras such as access to the Thrill Waterpark and cabana rentals. Royal Caribbean has another privately operated destination, Labadee, Haiti, which is not part of the Perfect Day collection.
