(12:35 p.m. EST) -- Carnival Cruise Line's next ship, Carnival Panorama, was floated out Thursday at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy, where the vessel is currently under construction.
Antonella Cazzin, who has worked at the shipyard for more than 35 years, served as the madrina (godmother) for the coin ceremony -- a tradition that sees a coin welded into the ship's keel or mast for good luck.
The next phase of construction will take place inside the ship, where interior fittings will be added.
Scheduled for delivery in fall of 2019 and carrying nearly 4,000 passengers, Carnival Panorama will join two sister ships -- Carnival Vista and Carnival Horizon -- in Carnival's Vista Class of ships.
Features will include the SportSquare recreation area, WaterWorks aqua park, Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse, Bonsai Sushi, Ocean Plaza and Cloud 9 Spa, as well as new-to-Vista-Class offerings like the exclusive Havana area and the popular SkyRide, a suspended bicycle-type ride that takes passengers on a ride above the outdoor decks.
Following its debut, Carnival Panorama will sail seven-night Mexican Riviera itineraries from Long Beach, California, calling on Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.
