This was my first cruise, so a mini trip from Newport to Dublin to Liverpool seemed like a great way to test the waters. I was worried I might get seasick (you don't know until you try) but despite two rough nights at sea, I was fine. However, despite the ship itself being beautiful, spacious and clean (with the exception of the mugs, glasses and cutlery), the food and the service left a lot to be desired. On the first day we boarded, some passengers were left behind due to a late coach. Seeing as though the ship left Newport and ended up in Liverpool, they were running a coach service from one port to another. Despite us booking this, the day after we paid we were told it was full, that was that, there was no offer of help sorting something else, no offer of a partial refund, nothing, leaving us to fund out own 5 hour trip to Newport, which was expensive, difficult and stressful last minute. Thank God we were not on that coach though, because the passengers on the late coach had to get on the ship from a smaller boat, as we hovered just off the coast of Wales. I would have been petrified if that were me. The only thing to eat was something they were claiming was pizza. Except I don't know what it was. It was floppy, it didn't have cheese on it, it has a kind of thick, gloppy sauce that coated your teeth to the point where you had to scrape it off them. They were heavy and horrible and left us both feeling very ill. The evening set menu wasn't great, enjoyable, or warm when served. Both restaurants were suffering a 'malfunction' at breakfast time, which meant the entire ship had to dine in the cafe. There was no room, so we couldn't sit down. People were sitting on the floor in the corridors and doorways to eat. Once again, the food wasn't great. We docked in Dublin, but my day was ruined by a horrible upset stomach, clearly resulting from something I'd eaten the day before. So not only did I skip my meal that night, but I was too scared to eat or drink anything on the boat because I didn't want to be ill again, and our cabin had to be vacated by 7am the next morning. I was still, of course, charged the daily service charge for dinner, even though I didn't eat it. You can get this daily charge of £5 per person removed, if you can go through the shame of going to reception, asking for it to be removed, and filling in a form all about why you want it changing and what you want it changing to, as well as all of your personal details - I'm sure this isn't necessary. It was very tricky, as not many staff members spoke English very well, so often it was hard to find someone who could help/answer your questions. I never want to go on a cruise again. Being stuck at sea, ill and starving, even for one night, was horrible. Go on this ship at your own risk. Make sure they give you what you pay for. Know that, however much you pay for your ticket, you will still be left with a bill at the end of your trip. Read Less

We booked this short cruise as it visited Dublin and Liverpool and gave us a taster of cruise and Maritime. We have cruised many times before with many main lines. Embarkation was reasonably smooth. Our cabins were not ready so we were directed to Raffle Bistros for lunch. Usually on cruises the food is a highlight, but not on this one. The same choice was on 3 islands, and consisted of runny stews, barely cooked sausages, and paper thin pieces of breaded fish. There was a poor selection of salads, vegetables and fruit, and a poor selection of desserts. This standard continued throughout our cruise. Evening meals in the Waldorf restaurant were a bit better, but portions were small. I sent back my salad each night as I requested no dressing, and the 2nd night I even had the wrong salad! On the first morning the 2 restaurants were closed due to a technical problem so the bistro was absolutely rammed. The cooked breakfast items were greasy and poor quality. The lifeboat drill was a shambles, and staff did not seem to know what they were doing, and it ended with a conga line to our lifeboat! The 2 shows had no sparkle and the singers and dancers seemed bored and ‘going through the motions’. The cruise was 2 hours late leaving Newport waters as tenders had to pick up passengers arriving late from connecting coaches. This, along with the bad weather, meant that we arrived in Dublin 3 hours late, which meant a shortened time ashore. The captain did lay on complimentary wine that evening at dinner to apologise for the delay and the morning restaurants closure. Our cabin was a good sized outside and was well appointed, but could have been cleaner. Unfortunately we had noisy neighbours who came back in the early hours each night arguing and swearing, which only stopped when we complained to reception. We were asked to be out of our cabin well before 7.00am, far earlier than other cruise lines. Luckily the 2 restaurants were open for a quick breakfast before our disembarkation time. Based on our experiences we would not consider cruising with this line again, despite good itineraries. Read Less

The price was very cheap so was the ship. Will never use this company again will stick to PO. It was like a benefit cruise. The breakfast was warm not hot. Had to wait at bars for awhile to get served. The late night snacks never came to our part of the bar I have never been on a cruise without there being a night time buffet on most ships do buffet between 2200hrs and 0600hrs not the Magallen. They say they do snacks between 2300hrs and 2330hrs dont count on it. I now know why the price was so cheap so was the ship will never go on a low budget cruise again. Went with 8 friends all said it was a poor cruise and will never go again. My advice is stick to the big companies you get a far better service and all round cruise The only good thing was the deserts were not to bad.
