We were kindly invited to join a friend (who I had worked with for 4 months on an NHS Test & Trace mobile testing unit) and her partner on this 2-night sailing as they wanted to try it to see if they would like cruising. Obviously, they were conscious that with all the current COVID-19 protocols in place, this sailing would not be like any ‘normal’ cruise, but hopefully it would give them a good ...

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Marella Explorer

This is an extensive review...Bear with me, but this is our honest opinion and our personal view. Firstly, to put this cruise into context it will have been our 17th. We have enjoyed 3 previous cruises with 'Thompson', all of which have been fine and we thought good value for money. This was why we booked with their new branding 'Marella' and we were looking forward to going on the ...

Embarkation: primitive, the Egyptians do it better. Ship: smooth, comfortable, very quiet, lots of public areas. Cabins: good size, well equipped, comfortable beds, plenty of storage. Crew: lovely! Really helpful and friendly, incredibly hard working. Food: the cheese was good, apart from that it was bland, repetitive, industrial cooking. Hot food wasn’t hot, fresh food wasn’t fresh, ...

Don't book a suite on deck 8!

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Marella Discovery

The cruise was to Iceland and a few stops in Norway, Shetland and Invergordon. Never again would I embark at Newcastle. The charge for parking your car is £10/day. There are NO facilities at the car park so we got our luggage from the car and joined the queue which was 150 yds long. There was no shelter from the blazing sun - it would have been worse if it had been raining. It took over an hour to ...

I thought you may like some feedback on our recent cruise in June 2018 to the Midnight Sun on TUI new ship Marella Discovery. We have been cruising with Thompson’s (TUI) since 2004 and have booked in excess of ten cruise trips with TUI. This is our second cruise with TUI in 2018. The ship is beautiful, with excellent recreation facilities, entertainment and lounge and bar service. In ...

A chance to visit Nordkapp (North Cape), Norway.

Review for a Norwegian Fjords Cruise on Marella Discovery

We (my wife and I) only booked this cruise as I have wanted to visit Nordkapp for a number of years. The dates fitted with our diaries so opted not to go on a European road trip as the opportunity had arisen. The tour was called Norway's Midnight Sun and included a run up the coast of Norway to Honningsvag (for North Cape) then a run back down and call in at a fjord and a couple of other places. ...

We chose this cruise as we had cruised with Thomson about 40 or so times from many different ports and liked Norway. Also not needing to fly was an added advantage. I normally don't post cruise reviews however TUI has failed to send us a review survey for the last few years for both land based holidays and criuses. So my only way of providing feedback is via public forums. The embarkation at ...

Good overall, a couple of disappointments

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Marella Discovery

The cruise got off to a bit of an inauspicious start when for whatever reason there was a big delay in dropping our bags off outside the port terminal before checking in, almost an hour queued to drop the bag off. After that checking in was fine, usual process of waiting in the port terminal until your number was called. The boat was lovely, looked great. It was my first time on Discovery and ...
