We wanted to experience the beauty of Norway and the Midnight Sun Cruise fitted the bill perfectly. Port of Tyne is only a 60 min car drive away from home so it was very convenient for us. Food in main restaurants pretty average. All inclusive drinks package good (avoid Don Mendo white). We chose the Fred Olsen Cruise Line and especially the Balmoral because it could cruise right up into the fiords that we wanted to see. Some of the larger cruise lines cannot do this. A smaller ship than most cruise ships and somewhat old by comparison but nonetheless the overall facilities where very good. Our cabin was twin berthed (could have been for 4) and adequate, not as luxurious as the more modern ships. Embarkation was quick and easy with only a medium queue to deal with. We got to our cabin, the bags arrived and we went up to the lounge for tea and sandwiches. This was a cruise booked through Saga. Picked up from home address to Newcastle where booking in went smoothly. Cabin was for solo occupancy and the bed was bigger than a single bed but a bit smaller than a double.
