I boarded the Megallan in Dundee and our cruise finished in Newcastle. Boarding was very easy and quick, leaving was even quicker as we had a train to catch and the staff ensured we got off early so we could catch it. All of the staff on board the ship were excellent, all spoke English well and they had clearly been trained in customer service. Our Cabin was spotless with very comfy beds and lovely new cotton sheets, good quality duvets and pillows. We had a power shower and were issued with clean towels every day. We had first sitting in the Kensington Restaurant. Each evening we had a wonderful five course hot meal with coffee. The service was excellent and the food good quality. Breakfast was a bit of a free for all though, food was good and plentiful but we preferred to eat at Raffles for breakfast, as you could have as much tea and juice as you wished. We also had afternoon tea and lunch at Raffles because it was less formal. You can also eat outside on the deck if you wish. There is lots of food, with lots of choice. Furthermore, for £17 a day you can drink as much wine, cocktails, soft drinks, beers and spirits as you wish. The red house wine is very drinkable! We did our own thing on land. There is not a lot to do in Flam or Eidfiord except walk or go on the train in Flam.It is much cheaper to do your own thing. In Bergan you can get a Bergan Card for £20, which gives you free access to museums, art galleries and the Funicular Railway, this is very good value. Entertainment on board the ship was good and the speaker was excellent however, the theatre is badly designed with lots of "blind spots". There is a lack of seats on board, with a lot of wasted space in Scotts Nightclub which I never saw anyone in! Also, there is no shop on board to buy toiletries, papers, magazines etc. In addition to this, the library has lots of books but they are locked away for most of the day, which I couldn't quite understand. This was our first cruise so we have nothing to compare it too. We asked some other couples on board who had cruised before how it compared to other cruses. One couple said very well because it was a small ship and this is what they preferred, another couple said it wasn't as good. Either way we enjoyed it! Read Less

WE have never cruised before but were delighted with the whole package from CMV on their new ship Magellan. Embarkation was orderly and efficient, car to cabin took about 20 minutes total time, where our luggage was waiting - so much better than flying. The cabin was small but perfectly clean and comfortable and was serviced twice a day by the lovely Natalia - tidied and beds made each morning. Each evening the bed was turned down, blinds drawn and the side light left on to ensure a welcoming ambiance on our return to the cabin at night. Bathroom again small but serviceable, with a great shower , although extra lighting in here would be better. The Waldorf restaurant was superb- beautiful and well presented food with friendly and efficient staff and Silver Service. Excellent selection of food, including at the Raffles Bistro upstairs. Entertainment was better than we expected - Rhys was great compering the daily quiz among other things, the band were excellent, particularly Katerina on the violin plus the chap on the saxophone, also the pianist (accompanying the singer Melissa) was really good. Waiting staff were always busy but remembered whole lists of orders and who they were for. Excursions were expensive, but on a par with other cruise lines. Lectures on the local area, etc, were really informative . My spouse became unwell during the cruise and had to be admitted to the Ship's Infirmary - the experience from start to finish was professional and reassuring, giving us great confidence . The doctor Ivan and nurse Bran were thorough, explaining everything clearly and giving advice and reassurance as well as the essential medical care and recommendations for ongoing treatment. This included a consultation via the internet with a land based Cardiologist - very impressive. They dealt with the Travel Insurance company directly and we had no expensive calls to make. Wi-fi on board was free, although slow at times, but we were crossing the North Sea ! For the price, we were really impressed with this cruise and will definitely be sailing with CMV again. Read Less
