Embarking in Newcastle wasn’t good we were treated like hearded animals, once on board the staff were so friendly they actually made eye contact which is unusual. The ship was very clean, the seats in the communal areas very comfortable and clean. The cabin very clean the shower was compact but practical, the bed a single was comfy sheets very clean. The cabin attendant was absolutely brilliant called shwadi top class. The entertainment being an 80’s cruise was very 80’s pink leg warmers beads big hair amazing music the onboard acts were extremely good. Restaurant food amazing well cooked well plated well served. Restaurant staff very attentive extremely knowledgeable about the food, Damnjan Pelivanovic our head waiter was extremely kind and friendly he took time to speak to us all, we deliberately asked for Damnjan each time, this young man will go far within the company. Amsterdam was our first excursion the place was beautiful the architecture first class Brugge was our second excursion again beautiful buildings beautiful shopping but having to get on busses trains and taxis to get into both city centres were expensive. Disembarking in Southampton was smooth. This cruise was over 18’s. Internet was the only disappointment it was expensive. Out of 10 if give it 9.9. Read Less

Food in main restaurants pretty average. All inclusive drinks package good (avoid Don Mendo white). Service excellent with special mention to Nico and David in the Atrium Bar and Yansi the lovely waitress. Oh, and the Snack Shack, a modest and underrated place where you can get hot instant and tasty food from talented staff. Rooms cleaned well by polite towel sculpturers,Captain looked and sounded like a captain should. Entertainment very good with excellent singers let down by couple of dodgy shows (drumming show especially). Opera singers enjoyable especially when on deck on sailing from port. Disembarkation disappointing took thee hours for us to get off which meant serious problems on motorway. Embarkation reasonable. Port of Tyne staff unfailingly cheerful and polite. Wine tasting event so enjoyable and well run by Darren, Moses and the knowledgeable and delightful sommelier Judy. Second time on the Discovery and have enjoyed both cruises. Looking forward to October Med cruise on Explorer. Read Less

A previous cruise on Discovery and a previous Norwegian cruise on a different ship had both been so enjoyable we booked "Wonders of the Fjords" to celebrate my 70th Birthday. What a good choice. Parking and Embarkation went just as explained in the Port Parking Voucher (although expensive at £10 per day) and a quick and easy booking-in provided the necessary security checks and provision of the check-in card to be shown on boarding and leaving the ship and for ordering either all inclusive drinks or for any extras to be charged to your credit card. Having selected (for £45 extra) the same cabin we had chosen on our previous Tui Discovery holiday on Deck 7, front of midships starboard side we knew exactly where we were going and found our balcony cabin well prepared by Adios clean and with ample hanging and drawer space. This cabin has ample space for the bathroom, a three seater settee and the queen sized bed, and leads through the sliding door onto the balcony which has just enough room for two chairs and a table. Not enormous, but enough. Although we chose to eat our first meal in the Islands self-service buffet restaurant we chose to only eat here occasionally as we found the 47 degree restaurant provided superb service and choice. We chose to sit at a table for two and had two waiters who became the ICING ON THE CAKE!. Nothing was too much trouble for Bojan and Trajche! They very quickly remembered our choice of wine and filled and re-filled glasses without being asked. They remembered that I have a dislike of nuts and pointed out the desserts which I wouldn't like. They always had a smile (even at breakfast). To say they made a good cruise better would be quite true. The entertainment team were superb with quality theatre shows every night. The standard of both song and dance was a credit to the performers and to the back-room too. The Stars of the extra entertainment must be Braximusic who performed in different venues around the ship continually. Having heard a very early performance of theirs on leaving Venice on Thompson Majesty in 2013 it was wonderful to see how their joint career has progressed and what a polished, goose-bumps performance they give. Thank you Max and Brandie. The ports were just as expected and the excursions (although expensive) informative and very enjoyable. The weather helped too. With the exception of Bergen ("it always rains in Bergen" we were told) and low cloud as we took a small boat cruise from Flam, we were lucky with relatively calm seas and mid August sunshine. All in all would we do it again? We we did. We had arranged to stay aboard the ship to go from Newcastle to the Baltic and enjoy our longest ever holiday. But that's another story. Read Less

This was our very first Cruise I have to say from start to finish it was excellent, We arrived at the port where our bags were taken from us and never saw them till we got to our cabin. we checked in and with in 10 mins we were through security and on the ship.we were on deck 8 Superior inside cabin and we were very happy with it. The food at all meal times were excellent, we chose to have our evening meals in the Avon Restaurant and the staff were first class. There is plenty to do on board if you don't want to get off at any of the ports. We mainly had our drinks in the Marquee Bar on the top deck very friendly and customer focused. Entertainment was also good, a great holiday which I would recommend to anyone the scenery was amazing weather was mixed apart from one day when it never stopped raining. We did the Funicular ourselves it cost £5 each to go up as we walked back down which I would recommend if your able. We then went to find the Ice Bar which cost us £19 each it was good fun and worth going in. We bought the tickets for the Flam Railway off Fred Olsen and I would advise to do this as your seats are reserved for you and well worth doing. All of the Ports that we stopped at were expensive to buy anything but really worth looking round the shops, you can do your own thing plenty to see and do. Read Less

The ship was great the embarkation was good and the disembarkation was a very smooth operation and crew could not do enough for us. I could not fault the quality or quantity of food on board and the entertainment was really good. There was also a well equipped gym and many treatment rooms. There was plenty of information in the cabin and the Daily Times news letter was very helpful. The Cabin was clean and comfortable with more than enough storage for the two of us the. Great cruise only let down by what I would call the incompetence of the shore tour people, it seems the lack of communication between ship and shore made us nearly miss the transfer bus to the helicopter flight (it was driving off as we got to the gate) and at £250 each for my nephew and myself would have been very disappointing to say the least. Wonderful holiday. Small ship compared to some but lovely. Spotlessly clean. Food amazing and Norway is just fantastic. The service for drinks and at dinner was slow and that's only criticism. I particularly enjoyed the ballroom dancing and attended a ballroom class. Unfortunately missed one due to illness. Nigel in particular was so kind, professional and patient. Some of the roads when out on tours are scary but so glad I did them. Have never seen such beautiful scenery. I was amazed how many older people with walking problems were on this cruise as soon of the gangways were tricky. It's not all older people as we were told but to be fair there were a few. Weather was great. My favourite place was Olden. Entertainment was good. The crew did a show at short notice as one of entertainment team had been injured. It was so good they got a standing ovation. AMAZING DISCOVERY . More then a Ten . Just back from our 2nd Norwegian Fjords cruise in 2 months on board the Marella Discovery. The first cruise was so enjoyable we booked the 2nd 2 days after we came back home and the 2nd week was even better and a lot of the staff remembered us as soon as they saw us which was so nice . We also learnt how to dance under the patient guidance of the fabulous professional dance couple ( Amy and Roland) The staff were fantastic from the cleaner to the Captain and all have the same work etchic of wanting you to have the best holiday and service they can give. So freindly but so profresisonal also . Anyone wanting to find fault would have to work hard it was SO EASY to have an amazing time. nothing is to much trouble,, we even heard hat on one of the recent cruise the bad weather had menat the had to replan the cruise itenery at the drop of the hat , how amazing service is that . Ok to give the break down of each aspect of what our cruise offered ENTERTAINMENT . Always something going on to watch or do . First class evening shows , good variety and the performers are so talented and put so much energy and enthusiasm into each peforrmance . They have two fantastc bands and also have Solo peformances by a magical saxophonist, guitarist and pianist also excellent and well rotated . There were also plays for adults and children, quizes, bingo , game shows and other activiies such as tours, tournaments movies and health talks. And not forgetting our favourite , daily dance lessons ‘passion for dance’ in the afternoon and also the evening althuogh on board with a lot of people you could find quiet areas for most of the daytime and therre are adult only areas . The evening does get more of a party atmophere but you do get the full range from classical music to pop and ballroom to disco . On sail out days they often had some musical event making the scenery of the Fjords even more awesome . one night they had a live musical duo (Braximusic ) ther singing was superb and made for a magical experience. All the enertament staff are visible and approcahable and are happy to engage with you FOOD and DRINK . All great quality and service . The restatarants (47 and 47 Gallery) was our favourite when we had the time and every meal was superb and service incredible . One one day the restaurant was supposed to be closed for lunch as was a port day but the weather was so wwt in the morning so not many people went to shore as expected so they opened it up , this showed to usthey go the extra mile by giving up what was a few hours off for the chefs/waiters. Island buffet had a great chioce and open most the daytime as with any ship the buffet does get busy. for snacks you can also go to the Snak shack and the Glass House .The all inclusive drinks litss is amazingly varied. even loads of mocktails if you prefer not to have alchol. The waiters are everywhere(even in the theatre) and very effecient at getting you order wthout you having to go to the bar . Before we cruised we were little anxious that an al inclusive meant a booze cruse mentality but all in all most people on the ship did;over indulge so the atmosphere was just 'happy' ROOMS AND HOSPITALITY. THe whole ship could not be cleaner and if there is a problem you report they fix it very promptly . Cabins vary in size depending on what you pay but the service is the same you know your cabin crew. beds are comfy and good storage space /plugs etc Tv is limited depending upon were you are so they show films etc EXCURSIONS. for the more poplular /limited spaces it is best to book before your cruise . but you do find they are sometimes more choice There is a destination desk open each day On the first day at sea they do a run down of all avavailble in the main theatre but ff you dont go the recording of it is shown on the onship tv channels . Each excursions we went on was on time ,had agreat local guide and was as desribed. Had good stops for photos.toilets etc Some ports you can just walk off find a tourist info and book your own activity if you prefer. One day we had to tender to shore and again very smooth operation and was running continuously from 9 - 5. It’s hard to find anything to be negative but if we were pushed to find anythig it would be the embarkation process could be better at the car park , if the weather is wet you would get very wet standing in a long queue to drop off your cases. Thsi may be the port rsther than marella as it is organised once you get to the terminal building as you get a numbered ticket and there are lots of seats and facilties whilst you wait . and most the boarding crew are from the cruise crew so yo get met them from the start. Wil definitely be looking at another cruise on this ship again in he near future Read Less

Even before the cruise Tui behaved poorly. Tui claimed the Kremlin was shut due to an extra national holiday when in fact it is always shut on a Thursday. We cancelled that excursion as a trip to a convent really wasn't worth almost £700 per couple. I am still waiting for a response two months after submitting a written complaint about the misleading information. Not everyone was informed of the changes, there were some irate travellers after the excursion. The destination services team were fantastic, helpful, responsive, so apologetic when circumstances outside of their control caused issues but most of all they were willing to put themselves out for you. The cities we visited, the excursions and the guides were first class. Getting on was fine if you had priority boarding, for those that didn't I was told it took some 2.5 hours to check in. The ship is tired, dated and in many places needs refurbishing. The staff are amazing, they work so hard (particularly the cabin stewards) even though several told us they were severely understaffed, we were told over 100 short on board. Getting drinks sometimes took 45 minutes and the 47 degree restaurant struggled at busy times. We were new to cruising and when we asked the receptionist for a map of the ship so we could orient ourselves on the first couple of days I was told I should have brought a brochure if I wanted a map of the ship, the same receptionist was particularly useless when we had a plumbing issue. He was the only staff member who was poor. The food in the restaurants was excellent, the Glass House tapas was superb. Some of the bad points; I witnessed one man tasting the food off the spoons in the Islands self service and putting them back in the food (I did tell the staff they needed to change the dishes). During the first England game no security was present in the bar and there were pensioners pushing and shoving each other, arguing over the crowds blocking their view of the screen. The majority of people on board were lovely and as a couple sitting on tables with 2 or 3 other couples at lunch and dinner provided some brilliant conversations. Some of the clientele were incredibly selfish, reserved seating signs for disabled people moved on coaches so the front seats were taken. Seating in the show lounge was limited so when it was busy people would leave gaps so they had more room and tell others that the seats were taken. The constant noise around the pool during the day was more like Butlins or a resort in Ibiza - not relaxing. Fortunately we were able to relax on our balcony. The all inclusive drink meant so many people went on the beer early and all day with the expected consequences. You need to be careful for the extra costs, tea and coffee isn't free everywhere on the ship. Besides the coffee shop there's also a cost from the bar in the Glass House. Some areas were so busy that there was no where to sit during the day or evening - see earlier point about seating. The painting of the ship during port meant that our cabin was unusable due to the xylene fumes, although we were offered a move we really didn't want to pack everything up so if you experience this be prepared to stay clear of your cabin for several hours. Some of the great points; The staff Excursions Food Show team Destinations Most of the people on board The cruise was summed up by a young couple we spoke to from Birmingham, it would be interesting to go on a more upmarket cruise to see the difference. In summary, we chose this based on destinations and we have travelled with Tui before to Orlando. As a first time cruiser it is not what I had expected from the discussions with friends who are regular cruisers on other cruise lines. In hindsight from my perspective Tui are not good at cruising and Marella is a low end product in the market, it isn't for me but it obviously is for a lot of people as they go back time after time and the all inclusive booze is a big factor for many of the people we met. We have never cruised before, so was not sure we would enjoy the experience, how wrong we were. The ship, Marella discovery, was very modern, well equipped, and professionally staffed, we were wined and dined, entertained, and felt pampered from arrival to departure, nothing was too much for them. we traveled to multiple ports around the fjords and the scenery was a delight to the eyes, we enjoyed our experience so much we are already planning our next cruise, I am a firm believer of not booking the same hotel twice, as I like variety when parting with my hard earned cash, but marella dicovery is more than just a hotel, it really felt like home from home, I would like to thank our captain, Chris, general manager Elizabeth, Karen, Fiona, rachel, in fact too many to mention, thank you all so much for the memories xxxx be seeing you all soon, Chris and Ruth , from brighouse. I thought you may like some feedback on our recent cruise in June 2018 to the Midnight Sun on TUI new ship Marella Discovery. We have been cruising with Thompson’s (TUI) since 2004 and have booked in excess of ten cruise trips with TUI. This is our second cruise with TUI in 2018. The ship is beautiful, with excellent recreation facilities, entertainment and lounge and bar service. In general, the facilities, bar and lounge staff were excellent. The two main areas that we were not too pleased with was the supervision and service provided in the Gallery 47 Restaurant and Island Restaurant. Maitr'd seldom visible did not help out. We eventually moved away from these facilities of the Gallery 47 and Island Restaurants and used the excellent facilities and food at the Black Rock Grill, Glass House, which was well supervised by Mr Anthony Tapiador, the Head Waiter and his most pleasant staff. I would recommend this excellent facility for your meals. Look forward to our next cruise. Read Less

Just arrived back from Midnight Sun Cruise with Discovery. This was the worst cruise we have ever been on and I have been on many all over the world. Hurricane Hectar changed our plans and we headed for a safe port. I totally understand this. What I don't understand that when the hurricane passed, we headed south instead of north. I was not alone in thinking this. Many people I spoke to would have gladly given up a port to enable the ship to go to the northern cape. I did not book an expensive holiday to cruise the fjords for nearly 13 days. I booked to go to the northern cape. 5 trips were cancelled and one of those was a rearranged trip by Marella. It seems to me they took an easy option visiting ports that they were familiar with. We were gutted we did not reach the northern cape etc. We were fed up of seeing virtually indistinguishable port after port. Our mantra became...repeat, repeat...Mountains, repeat, waterfalls, repeat, god forsaken town, repeat, tacky souvenir shops, repeat. We were totally bored even though we went on trips every day. They misrepresented how difficult some of the trips were. What they classed as moderate walking to the foot of a glacier was supposed to take 45 minutes of moderate walking. Haha, We are both fit and it took well over an hour of steep uphill walking. Many of the passengers struggled with this and did not make it to see the glacier. Some passengers were struggling to breathe. There were other trips like this. The weather was also not good. A very disappointing cruise and we felt did not justify the cost of it. A complete waste of time and money. So glad to be back home. The food and waiting staff were very good. Read Less

I don't usually write reviews for cruises but having travelled on the Magellan three times I feel the need to add some balance to all the negative reviews posted on this site. I've just come back from another great holiday, sailing from Newcastle to Norway for seven nights. The Magellan is an old ship and can never compete with the new-build state of the art ships run by Royal Caribbean etc, but what it does excell at is excellent service and value for money. We were in an inside cabin on deck four. "Isn't that down with the crew and the engines?" one ill-informed and rather stuck up fellow passenger asked me. It was a room for two, with plenty of space and a comfortable bed. I have a very sensitive sense of smell and despite what's been written here before, there was no smell of diesel or sewage. Nor were we stricken down by the killer air conditioning. The room was serviced twice a day and I slept well every night of the cruise. The low, mid-ship position of the cabin meant I didn't feel any motion when the ship was moving. The passenger decks are all clean and comfortable, with enough bars and sitting areas to move around across the day. The quality of food and drinks are where CMV really excels. I've done six previous cruises with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity and can honestly say that the food and wine selection onboard Magellan are far superior to those companies. We had all our meals in the ala carte restaurants to avoid the buffet scrum and I enjoyed every one. We also ate in the speciality restaurant Fusion, which was open two nights of the cruise, and this too was outstanding. We took out the VIP drinks package, which is far cheaper than packages on Royal Caribbean, with a much better wine selection (I think the quality of wine included in RC's packages really let them down). It also included a private cocktail party which was a nice opportunity to meet other people, and allowed 50% off the speciality restaurant. The service from all staff is excellent. Another area in which CMV scores over it's bigger competitors. There are always staff on hand to take drink orders, and if you do go to the bar to order for yourself, someone will bring the order to your seat. Even at very busy times, such as after the evening show, I never waited long to be served. I enjoyed the entertainment this cruise. No, it's not as expensively produced as on other lines, but the main theatre shows are all well performed by a talented team, headed by Cruise Director Jonathan Dulson. We weren't interested in the craft activities but there seemed to be something on every day for those who were. I did hear a lot of moaning from other passengers but it was all ridiculous stuff. "This porridge is made with milk, I wanted it with water." Someone else was very rude to a waiter when she didn't receive a plate of fruit with her breakfast , a plate of fruit she didn't order in the first place. People complained when they turned up at the ala carte restaurant and there was no buffet there. All absolute rubbish from people who should take responsibility for there own failings rather than moan. We met someone else so mean spirited that he'd worked out how much he thought the staff would make in gratuities, and then bragged how he'd stolen a pen from a waiter. I suspect all these people will delight in posting their negative reviews but don't believe it. As mentioned above this is my third time on Magellan and I loved it. Would we book again? We already have. Read Less

This is our second cruise with Fred Olsen Cruises, we have been on five different cruise lines, and would say they are all pretty good. We like Fred because it probably has the the most friendly crew, smaller ship catering mainly for a British passenger, entertainment was excellent in the Neptune show theatre, a little disappointed with the bar entertainment, although they were generally alright, we felt they could be more entertaining and involve the audience more. Bars were very pleasant, we also loved the fact that there are quiet areas on the ship, unlike some of the other lines where music would be playing everywhere. Crew is particularly friendly and efficient and help to make Fred cruise so good. We had to ask for a change of cabin because our first cabin on deck four was very noisy, no problem, within a couple of hours they moved us to deck five, great, they even sent a member of the crew to help. Food in general is very good, if not excellent most of the time, waiters very pleasant and efficient , you can enjoy a bit of banter with them. We did have on this occasion a couple of dishes that were not up to Fred’s standard, mash potato was lumpy and a braised lamb and also a braised beef dish a little tough, maybe just need more time in the oven. Don’t get me wrong the food is generally of a very good standard, just wanted to mention the fact. Cabin was of a decent size, particularly enjoy have tea and coffee making facilities in the cabin. Big plus for us was the ship was leaving from our local port, so we can be in our cabin within an hour of leaving home, no flights to bother with. We will definitely be cruising with Fred again. Passenger age group would be fifty plus, although there was some younger people on board, not many children. Because of the smaller ship you can enjoy some ports of call unlike the larger ships. This was our 1st cruise and being very apprehensive of going into the unknown, We are so glad we booked this cruise Sailing from Newcastle was great only being a few hours up the motorway. Embarkation went smoothly seeing that we did not know what we was doing. We had a outside cabin on deck 2. The cabin was not that big but seeing you only slep in it, it was sufficient, Plenty of storage and wardrobe space. Only one drawback not enough coat hangers. Though I did pack some into the suitcase Very clean Joko came in twice a day changed the towels he left it so clean and tidy. The ship is spotless you see the staff continually cleaning, painting to keep the ship looking good, they work so hard. We eat in the Lido restaurant there was a good selection of food and it was very good, it could get busy. We did not try the other restaurants always meant too but never got round to it definitely next time. There is a variety of bars to suit all taste Liberties with your bingo quizzes music till late, Duo singers in Hemmingway more of a relaxed and a bit quieter. Horizon up on top deck which again is one of the quieter bars. Bars to suit all taste The staff in Liberties are great we got to know them and you could not ask for anything else for helpful, always smiling staffs. Thanks Nosi and gang for making our cruise lovely and enjoyable Entertainment in the Show lounge was good, its good that the shows have 2 start times. The fjords are unbelievable and the ports of calls were lovely. I would highly recommend this destination cruise. We loved this cruise, The Fjords The Celebration. The atmosphere, the people, the staff are so friendly and this made our holiday. We would defiantly book another in fact we have for next year to the Adriatic on the Celebration. Cant wait. Read Less

OK no Adel but they gave us everything & made the trip! Norway spectacular. Service & staff really attentive & helpful. We went "steerage" after all we went for the sights not the room. Absolutely fine, clean & compact, everything we needed. Spent the savings on having fun! Paid our tips in advance & took full advantage of the "drinking package" a wonderful way to "empty ones head" Beats flying any day. Boarding & disembarking were the easiest things, relaxed Chilled. This cruise was a charter for Cruiseco in Australia who hired it to host a Rock the Boat themed cruise 2017. We saw the advert in the supplement in our Saturday paper and although it seemed expensive for 7 days around the UK it did have a fantastic line up of acts from our era so we decided to jump in and book it. We took the upgrade which included the drinks package and gratuities and an outside cabin which seemed ok to us. We booked through cruise 1st who were efficient in the beginning but let us down when it came to booking parking at Newcastle. It took us weeks to sort it out and finally after saying they could not book it, CMV ended up doing so.No vouchers arrived so contact with Australia was necessary in order to get one sent by email which we printed off and all went well at Newcastle. We have never had such an efficient and quick embarkation as we had at Newcastle and the same was true on our disembarkation. Newcastle has really got it's act together, something other ports to take a lesson from. We were shown to our cabin 6064 and found it bigger than other ships and a double shower was very good. The walls had sticky finger prints all over as had the doors and wardrobe doors, otherwise it was clean and had a kettle, hairdryer but no fridge. We found the ship quite easy to get around with all the bars etc on the same deck but finding the Waldorf MDR took a bit of getting used to. We did not like the house wine offered with the drinks package ( dry rough Spanish plonk) so went without with our evening meal ( CMV need to look at this, we will not have the drinks package again and the only beer available my husband found undrinkable). The food left much to be desired, having read some good reviews on the food by other cruisers we can only assume that as this was a charter the usual chef was on holiday. We enjoyed 2 main meals but not much else.Very poor cheap ingredients( Talapia fish for example) buffet food varied but often luke warm , bland or just unappealing. We went onshore and bought a decent meal out when in port as I believe did some of the crew! It was only the superb entertainment and the bands which made this cruise enjoyable and the lovely people we met but I cannot imagine we would go on Magellan again if the food is standard. Pity because we liked a lot about the ship, cabin etc. MDR staff very good but bar staff left much to be desired at times as did buffet staff and the officers rarely acknowledged passengers in passing. Too many nationalities , many having little or poor English and we saw quite a bit of friction between them as some seemed less efficient than others. Read Less

Embarkation in Newcastle was a breeze it took all of 15 minutes which is the fastest ever (this was cruise number 13 & 6 different cruise lines) We were shown straight to our cabin which was lovely we normally have to find it ourselves & our cases were already there. The cabin was spacious & comfortable (6206 superior single inner) Although its called a single It had a queen size bed which was 2 pushed together & space for 2 people it caused much confusion before we sailed as I had seen a photo online with a single with upper bunk!! We had dinner in the Waldorf restaurant & were superbly looked after by James & Aung they went above & beyond & really made us feel special, the food was amazing & among the best that we have had at sea, 5 courses to choose from, well cooked & presented & always hot. The Entertainment was spectacular we haven't stopped talking about it this was a different cruise to normal so can't comment on the usual entertainment. Read Less

We were on the Rock the boat with Slade Suzi Quatro etc it was fantastic . Our 1st with cruise maritime and won't be the last spacious cabin 2 single beds not posh but comfortable the 3 bars were not too big so enabling us to see the entertainment easily as well as the theatre , food and staff faultless well done to the organisers for choosing this ship to host the festival brilliant .only gripe the cabin walls were not soundproof like other ships we've been on which is why I gave a low rating .We had 2 ladies staying in the next cabin who would talk loudly until 2.30 am keeping us awake each night. The pool area could do with a bit of a makeover we did not use the spa area as we didn't get time due to so much entertainment going on but the treatments/massages looked interesting . This was the first time i had ever cruised , i went with the hubby and 2 older children (20 + 16) nan and grandad. All i can say is we had a fabulous time fromstart to finish. Yes the cabin was basic but no more than i had imagined and i dont know about others but our holidays are not spent in a cabin. The ship was spotless if you stood still long enough you would have been cleanedtoo. All staff were extremely pleasant and helpful our cabins serviced twice a day. Entertainment.... we spent most of our time(when not viewing the amazing scenery) in Liberties bar. The entertainment staff were great Gavin had us in stitches on more than one occasion.Adam and shaneece ran thing to perfection helped out by luke. As a family we thoroughly enjoyed it and in fact on our last day we wefe discussing was there anything to moan about 6 of us agreed......NO Food was hot, fresh and you can eat from 7am throgh to 1am there was amply choice and the usual variety that any 4* hotel would offer. We had upgraded FOC to all inclusive and the range of drinks on offer could not be argued with and usual to all inclusive hotels, some reviews point out upselling , yes we did get asked did we want a photo, ice cream, champagne drinks a quick no and thats the upselling over not uncomfortable at all. Norway was stunning beautiful scenery for 3 days. We took the flam railway full day trip, yes it was expensive initially but the thought of going to Norway and not doing it didnt seem right. We thought it was value for money, the tour guide very informative and the lunch provided by a 4* picturesque hotel. We are now converted cruisers. Read Less

We saw everything we hoped we would see and it was lovely. However, the ship itself was very poor. Within an hour of boarding the Captain informed us that there was a "level 3 sanitation" in progress. We soon discovered this meant complete shut down of swimming pools, saunas, jacuzzi, games room and laundrette. We were not informed of this problem before boarding but we had to sign that we had not suffered with any stomach problems up to two days prior to boarding. Surely, that should be obligatory on both sides. Our cabin stewardess told us that they had had a problem onboard for the previous two weeks. Unfortunately, because we didn't complain about this to anyone onboard at the time Thomsons have denied, verbally by telephone, that the ship had not logged any problems so therefore there hadn't been a problem and they didn't know what "level 3 sanitation" meant anyway. We did find it a bit strange that we could still pay to use the computers to access the internet which was next to the games room where all games were locked away. We have cruised on the Celebration a number of times and always been happy with everything but we are bitterly disappointed with the outcome of this cruise. Read Less
