We had gone on Princess in Jan, 2018 on the Panama Canal cruise and it was wonderful. We had a great mini-suite and the entertainment was great. Afternoon happy hour and music. This cruise which was classified an a club class upgrade was the most disappointing cruise we have been on. We did not receive the upgrades per the website. The robe were old, thread bare and one size fits all a small. There was no way my husband and I could put them on. We asked our room steward and the front desk for new robes. Nothing. We were to have a dining table for 6-8 and we got a table for 2. When we tried to exchange they wanted us to go to anytime dining, which we rejected. The afternoon entertainment consisted of "senior citizen" board games. Music didn't start until dinner time and evening entertainment was lumped into about a 3 hour period. WRONG. Another factor there were over 100 new employees aboard and many untrained. Our dinner helper was a nightmare and our poor waiter had to pick up her slack. Not a good experience. The shore excursions were way overpriced for what we got. The cutbacks from January, 2018 to this cruise were alarming. I wonder if we want to do another cruise. Read Less

We chose this cruise due to the ports and the deal we received. Upgraded 5 months out form bottom balcony to nighest Deluxe Balcony cabin x2. Service charge included for all and ~$200 shipboard credit. We loved each and every port visited. The Fall foliage was amazing. Cabot trail was probably the best. Upon arrival to Quebec they were already past peak foliage. The cruise ship is nice, it was our first time on royal. The balcony are very small compared to other ships I have been on. A negative experience was dining room opened up 45min late on the first night. They seemed to be having issues throughout the day with their first inspection in the US since transatlantic cruise. We arrived in to each port late almost overtime but one which was frustrating with independent excursions booked. Sadly St John call was cancelled due to winds. However extra time in Halifax was provided which was great Read Less

My wife and I wanted to go on a cruise to New England and Canada in the fall of the year. So a group of us having had previous experience with Princess Cruises took this cruise. WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED. What a great time was had by all. Individuals who made our very enjoyable were: Alhli, Hostess at the Symphony dining room; Oley Zhylenkou waiter at dinner (very entertaining); Dymteo Sapelnykov waiter assistant very obliging; Ajit Kasale and Brenda Ponte Cubillas Bar waiters both very attentive to our needs both in the morning at the coffee bar and later in the evening when the entertainment was going on in the Atrium. THE BAND called STATIC, what an enjoyable experience. This is the second time this group has entertained us and I am hoping they will be on the British Isles Cruise in August2019. Both Nancy and Merlin are great singers and showman. They would go out in the audience sing and dance and brought such joy to the passengers. The rest of the shows that were offered on the cruise were first class as well both comedians were excellent. Enough can't be said for the cruise director and his staff always around and so fun of energy. Can't say this enough but, WHAT A GREAT CRUISE. Looking forward to our next. Read Less

This made the third cruise we have had on the Royal. She is a beautiful vessel, but has flaws that won't go away. The most annoying issue is the size of the theatre - way too small on busy nights. Some nights we arrived 45 minutes prior to the show and had terrible seats. Most of the other entertainment venues are overflowing, also. Our cruise ran into usually cold weather, so the outdoor facilities were worthless. You can't watch a movie under the stars in 40 degree weather, no matter how many blankets they give you. This may have contributed to the overflow traffic in the public areas. As for the rooms, we all agree they are small, but comfortable. Our neighbors were quiet and we enjoyed good rest each night. The room steward was good, although we saw him only occasionally, but that's okay. The embarkation NY is a nightmare. The lines are slow and the security is a joke. Seeing them hassling senior citizens over metal implants is repulsive and it slows everyone down to a crawl. Disembarking went much smoother and we made it to the airport in plenty of time to meet our 11:00 am flight. We thought the food in the MDR was much better than our last trip and the buffet was a little better also. The steaks in the MDR were very good quality and cooked as ordered. The MDR needs to work on their service delivery. We dinned in the MDR 8 of the 10 nights and enjoyed most of them. Our waiter had 4 large tables that were full most nights, so some dinners took 2 hours. Other areas of the MDR were almost vacant, but they never seemed to lend a hand for the busy areas. Read Less

We have cruised many times on Princess and, prior to this cruise, have enjoyed excellent meals and service in all areas of the ship. We have been on the Royal Princess on prior cruises and been pleased with the ship. On this cruise, however, something changed. The food quality was below average and was always served lukewarm. We saw many passengers send the food back to have it warmed up. The bars even ran out several types of glassware and were serving drinks in tall narrow glasses that were not easy to drink out of. They said they said they were short on glassware. Several times the serving staff in the dining rooms and bars seemed to be put out to have to wait on passengers. We heard similar comments on the food and staff from several other long term Princess cruisers. The general feeling was that the cruise line is having trouble with profits and has cut back. Our cab driver, on the way to the hotel after the cruise, told us he had heard similar complaints from passengers he had earlier that morning. Read Less

It was rated the Best New England Cruise Land combination. Or so the advertisement said. Best for them because they have cut quality of food, shows, room size, Just over all, poorly run. We will never cruise with princess again!! Best thing the Cruise Director Matt O'. Matt did his best to keep up morale, tall order for someone trying to save a sinking ship. Food was not up to par and timing was very poor. Missed 3 out of 10 dinners due to "Any Time Dining". What they don't tell you is that it is "Any Time They Want You To Dine". Also, schedule your dinning rooms, so that one can eat early, due to GERD issues, and still find a seat in the Auditorium. We missed 2 shows due to "Standing Room Only" at the first Show. Service as good as could be expected, as they had 140 new crew members, who were using passengers to learn the ropes. NOT the Crews fault - - MANAGEMENT is using the cheapest labor to get the most money. We were informed that they were training for the "HOLIDAY SEASON". Princess needs to help their staff by providing the best training. We booked our flight through Princess. When it was too late to book our own, they moved us to a "RED EYE" to their $$$ advantage. Also, took 2 days to catch up on sleep.Due to a freeway accident, we stood with our luggage from 7:45 A.M. till 1:30 P.M. because they had no back up plan. For all the trouble, we were offered nothing. Read Less

We had an amazing experience on the Royal Princess. We had unparalleled service from the food service staff, our room attendant, guest services....everyone bent over backwards to ensure we were well cared for. Our room was beyond clean and the bed was so comfortable! The 4 production shows were out of this world Broadway caliber shows. The cruise director and his team interacted with the passengers and mad it a fun time while on board. The piazza entertainment-especially the dance band was incredible!! My only criticisms were not having enough time in some of the ports (some days the ships sailed at 3/30 in the afternoon). And the ships internet service was very expensive. But then you should be leaving your internet behind when you go on a cruise. We celebrated our 40th Anniversary on this cruise. Princess did an amazing job of recognizing our special event with balloons and a door sign and a special dessert for supper. My only advice is never book a room in the front of the ship....you feel every wave and motion of the ship. Read Less

First trip since loss of husband. Wanted a relaxing US trip with 2 lady friends. Ship was too large for us with 3500 passengers Shows (entertainment) were great Beautiful ship decor Ship needed a game room where we could play cards, majjoung. The library was not the room to play games in. All positive but small towns didn't offer too much. Three stop we enjoyed were: Newport, Boston, Quebec *********Food was NOT GREAT at all!********* Buffet, open dining rooms, Alfredo's, International all served very BLAND CUISINE! You need more seasoning & flavor in food. Either your catering to an older customer so you want the food to be w/o salt & seasonings or your chefs need help! Pastry & breads were especially awful! Always were dry & stale!Only good roll was a coiled onion roll served in Symphony dining room. Not one good dessert. I sailed on many Celebrity cruises just because the food was a step up & much better! Cabin was adequate & cabin service was superb. I don't think I would travel with Princess again because of the food alone! We missed our flight to Toronto because 3 in the dis embarcation crew told us our bus trip from Quebec to Montreal was 45 min & indeed it was 3.5 hrs!!! We were angry. Read Less

We booked this for a late Summer luxury treat. We chose a Suite and enjoyed this tremendously and could not fault a thing. The on board experience was also excellent from a dining perspective and also the bars/bar entertainment was good. The general shows were of a poor quality and it seems Princess is downgrading from a cost perspective. The on shore activity was also mediocre with the cruise terminals of a poor quality (not expected for USA) and limited choices of transport into town etc, unless you went on a Princess "over priced" excursion. In the end we found and booked our own private excursions for better money and also more tailored made for our needs. All was good until disembarkation when we were 100% let down by Princess who once, got you off ship, abandoned you. We queued with over 300 other people for 2.50 hours+ for a cab with no other choice of transport. Cruise and experience ruined !! Read Less

We have traveled Princess before as well as other cruise liners, it was not our favorite cruise nonetheless we did have a nice time. On each cruise we have gone on they feel more and more like floating 'selling machines', everything seems to be geared towards encouraging you to spend more money. On the positive side the food in the standard restaurants was 1st class (so we didn't use any of the specialty ones), service excellent and the ship was lovely. Entertainment was disappointing, unless you like quizes, bingo, or things that involve audience participation . We did often enjoy listening to the singers/band in the atrium and the theatre show was good. Auto gratuities are a bug bear of ours, we prefer to personally tip our waiters/ room steward etc so we had those removed. The weather for us was mixed, mainly dry but varying temps so often in hoody and jeans or sometimes needing hats and gloves. The ports of calls were also varied, some like New York, Rhode Island, Nova Scotia were really interesting, others were much smaller and quieter towns but even so we enjoyed a gentle stroll around town. Glad we have ticked this off our list of places to visit but would I want to go again, probably not. Would I sail princess again, well maybe but I think I would try a different cruise line to compare next time Read Less

Due to hurricane Helene we rerouted from Bergen and Belfast to Vigo and the Azores. Great effort by the crew to reconstruct tours and the Royal did a great job. Many aboard were miffed at the rerouting. Get over it folks. I’ll take sunny and 85 over 20 foot waves and driving rain any day. Cruise Staff under Matt O was the best I have ever AND I MEAN EvER had. Superior does not begin to describe how much they did in rearranging our tours and extra days at sea. The food was outstanding and the transatlantic allowed for empty optional restaurant choices as Sabatini’s and Crown Grill were empty most nights. But beware the transatlantic route appears to be the motherload of long retired passengers o canes, walkers and scooters. I am 61 and felt young! The crew on the Royal was excellent but the international cafe baristas were not up to par and the new coffee card on your room card is sooooo BAD! Watch for mischarges for regular coffee and now you can’t use it at the gelato bar. Which by the way had great gelatos but was empty 24/7 partially due to the coffee card change. Which is also not transferable to your next cruise. Bad call Princess!!! Read Less

This cruise was very good, with a few hick ups. The itinerary was excellent. The ports were great. The ship was beautiful. The staff other then a few were exceptional. The food was very good for the first seven out of ten days. After that it fizzled, some of the meat in the horizon court buffet was looking and tasting like it was reheated several times. But there salad and fruit was always very fresh. Same goes for the Symphony dinning room. The one problem that was not acceptable was, one of us went to the burger place on deck for a hotdog and watch as the cook picked up raw chicken with tongs and the proceeded to use the same tongs to pick up his hotdog and put it on the bun. Needless to say he did not eat this. As previously stated the staff was excellent, in the symphony dinning room Milo and the other waiters worked hard and very friendly. Unfortunately the management was a little overbearing, part of the charm of cruising is speaking to the staff and finding were they are all from. As there is less staff now then on our last cruise this was hard to do. Jeffary our room steward was amazing. The bar staff was exceptional. Especially Anton and Mary-Joy. All in al I would recommend this cruise. We met and made some wonderful friends and had a wonderful time. Read Less

Fantastic cruise. We spent 5 days in New York before embarking the ship and we found it very easy to get from the city to the port. We used a private car from the hotel to get to the port as on the day of embarkation it was pouring with rain. Arrinving at the port our luggage was very quickly organised and the whole embarkation procedure went very smoothly. We enjoyed all the ports we visited although I had been hoping for a bit more colour in the trees but unfortunately it was still a bit early. Halifax and Quebec were our most interesting ports of call. We did mostly ship excursions in all ports except PEI. In this port we just left the ship and walked around the town. The only complaint we would have with the ship was the dining. We had 'anytime' dining which wasn't really anytime as most nights when we went to the dining room we were given a buzzer and sometimes waited up to a half hour to an hour for a table even though we were prepared to share. Disappointing!! The entertainment on the ship was excellent and we saw a fantastic show called 'The Secret Silk' which could very well have been a show on Broadway. Disembarkation was smooth and we did an extended airport excursion to Montreal. Didn't really enjoy that excursion as much as others we had been on and the guide and bus driver didn't really seem to have a good rapport with each other. Not sure if this was because the guide was speaking English and the driver only spoke French! Read Less
