We love, love, love the Gem and her staff and crew, and as usual they did not disappoint us. We are suite travelers (aft penthouse, no Haven on Gem). Having been on the Gem many times for us it was old home week with greetings from all of the staff and crew we have come to know and love. This is one of the things that keep us coming back. We have done this itinerary many times and usually only get off in Great Stirrup Cay. Since DH has not seen the new Atlantis exhibit, we did go there on a ship sponsored tour. Being a child of the space age, I really love the Kennedy Space Center, and even though I've see the Atlantis exhi8bit before, I still got chills and he just loved it. Teacake performed this cruise, and all I can say is if you see her in the line up,don't miss this show. She has an awesome voice and does Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin songs. Even my old stogie, Italian DH, who doesn't understand all of what is said or sung, loves her voice and enjoys the show. Sadly I was sick (bad cold) for the rest of the cruise, so I spent time sleeping in the cabin and keeping germ spread to a minimum. This is where having a butler really is great. She brought me hot chicken soup and plenty of tea with honey and lemon! Our only disappointments with this cruise have to do with new corporate changes. The first being with photos. Now when they take a picture in a restaurant they come back with prints to buy then and there, they are not available later. We found this very disappointing as we like to review and decide at the end of the cruise. his resulted in buying much fewer pictures then usual. Yes, even as frequent cruisers, we still buy pictures! The second is much more subjective as anything to do with dining is. They have removed the potato soup from the Cagney's menu, as well as zucchini and spinach as sides. Also, as suite guests, the removed the salads from the lunch menu. We missed all of these. In La Cucina, folks may be happy to hear that they brought back the pizza. Not of interest to us. Sadly though the removed the carpaccio, beef lazagna, and lamb chops. Food is subjective and not all will agree with our disappointment and I understand that. Did this ruin our cruise, no, but felt the need to mention since NCL does read the reviews. Read Less

Had a wonderfully relaxing vacation on the Gem. Our cabin 9158 balcony was kept immaculately clean by our terrific steward, Victor! We had plenty of room and enjoyed spending time on the balcony during sailaway and once we reached warmer weather. We visited Cocoa Beach by shuttle (thru NCL) from the port, dropped off by the surf shop. There were clean bathrooms and a short stroll to the beach. We took a long walk to the Cocoa beach pier, enjoyed some cocktails and strolled back along the water's edge. We shopped a bit and met up with the shuttle back to the ship. The cost of the shuttle was 15 each round trip. There was free Wi-Fi on the shuttle, it was about a 10 minute drive from the pier. We made it Great Stirrup Cay for a lovely day at the beach. Always a fun time there with plenty to each and drink, always a lounge in sun or shade, you may have to walk a bit to find one if you arrive late in the morning. Our next stop was the Bahamas, and we again strolled to our day resort the British Colonial Hilton. Beach, pool, bar and food all included for around $80 person. The voucher includes $40 food and drink person and towels! Clean bathroom and lots of lounges and clamshells. Beautiful rresort! We booked this on our own. The ship was very clean, and never felt crowded. Food was good , we eat at the main dining rooms and o'sheehans, and the Asian restaurant, with an occasional stop at the buffet or topsiders. Embark and Debark were smooth. We will definitely sail on the Gem again. Love leaving out of NYC! Read Less

We just sailed on the Norwegian Gem Dec 8-15. We sailed from NYC to Port Canaveral, FL, were supposed to stop at Great Stirrup Cay (their private island) but the sea was too rough, to Nassau, Bahamas and back to NYC. It was our first time on the Gem - we've sailed on Breakaway 3 times and the Escape once. We really liked the smaller ship. The crew was so friendly and hardworking. We were upgraded to an aft-facing balcony and we LOVED it! It was a bit noisy outside, but the room itself was very quiet. When we first got on board we found it hard to get from one place to another. The larger ships seem to have a better flow. At times we felt like we were in a corn maze. We really liked the outdoor barbecue on sea days. The entertainment was great, always a lot of activities going on, and the food very good. We didn't eat in any specialty restaurants, just the complimentary ones. The ship was beautifully decorated for the holidays. We took off amidst snow flurries so we really enjoyed the blue skies and sunshine in the Bahamas. Overall a fantastic holiday! Read Less

The boat was so big I was kind of scare at the beginning, but a few days on the boat we were great. The food was unbelievable.if you couldn’t find something to eat it was your own fault. Everywhere you turn food, food, food.our stateroom was soooo nice. I miss it. We had a balcony to watch the sea at night with a glass of wine every night before we go to bed. The shows on the boat were something I’ve never seen in my life before. The casino, well that was a little tight. They could of let people win a little more. We really in joy the pools they had. The life guard was very informative on were to eat by the pool. The best was the guy that clean our room everyday.he was there to help us as needed. He did the best he could for sure.give that guy a rise.i just wish I seen him before I left in the morin. Thanks for making my first trip beautiful. Read Less

This was our very first cruise ever. We had a great time. The food, drinks, service, entertainment, and overall atmosphere was good all around. We were given a great room on the 8th deck. It was a few steps from O'Shehans which was great. Everything was clean. The food at the Moderna Churrascaria was delicious. Make sure to get some of the roasted pineapple. I'd go back just for that. We stopped in Orlando; however, we didnt get off the boat. Nothing seemed appealing. We enjoyed our time at the Great Stirrup Cay. Water was clear and warm. The views were fantastic. Our last stop was in Nassau, Bahamas. We booked an excursion to go to Blue Lagoon. It was very relaxing. Tip: Make sure to get wet shoes if you plan on walking across the rocks/coral. We enjoyed the sun with a handfull of pina coladas by the water. We took a great nap on the hammocks under the shade. I would definitely recommend this trip to friends and family. I'll definitely book a different trip with NCL to another location to discover more. Read Less

We took this cruise because it sailed out of NY and it was around the dates we were looking for. I’m so glad we picked a balcony room and that it was mid ship. Sitting out on the balcony for down time was soooo relaxing looking out on the beautiful blue water, hearing the sound of the ocean along with the breeze was so delightful! This was my first cruise and I think if we had other than a balcony I wouldn’t say it was a nice experience. We went poolside everyday, having drinks served to us which was very nice. We did three off ship excursions along with going to the nightclub Bliss on the ship. We ate at all the restaurants and buffets and the food was fantastic. I was very skeptical about going on a cruise but I would definitely do it again. We want to try the BLISS ship next time when it’s ready to sail. Read Less

My wife and I sailed on Norwegian Gem Sept. 1st 7 day Bahamas cruise from NY. I cannot say enough good things about the ship, the crew and the food. The crew was extremely friendly and always went the extra mile. The cruise director was top notch and provided excellent entertainment and kept things fun and hopping. The captain and his crew kept us informed of what we needed to know and did an excellent job of avoiding any day time storms. We had a mini balcony suite on the 11th deck. It was perfect from the suite size to the guy who made up the room. The only petty negative I have is that Cagney’s wasn’t up to their usual high standards. But that is just a very minor thing on an excellent cruise. This was our 5th cruise and 4th with Norwegian. It was by far the best cruise. Read Less

Gem is a beautiful ship which is kept clean and well maintained by an excellent crew. Getting on ship was very easy with suite had priority embarkation after going though security was on ship in about 20 minutes. Staff is extremely attentive and friendly, always greeting you with a smile. Cabin 10504 was big and spacious with amazing service from Teresa (Butler) and Room Steward Andy. Dining was always great with many delicious options always available. Meganta Dinging Wine steward Julien was great very friendly and helpful. Recommend trying specialty restaurant Moderno excellent service and food. Entertainment was good, enjoyed the Juggler Randy Cabral and Get Down Tonight show. Bliss lounge at night had music with live band then a DJ, great place to get a drink and hang out, waiter Sam was excellent. Ports were great rented a Cabana on Great Stirrup Cay (Private island), only issue is was not informed that in order to use the $50 credit that comes with the Cabana had to order food the day before so we lost the credit so beware. Nassau visited Junknoo Beach, Queens staircase and shop the straw market. Tried the restaurant Sharkee had great conch fritter. Overall an excellent vacation would definitely sail the Gem again. I am a first time cruiser and I am so thankful that I was able to experience my first cruise on the Norwegian Gem. The staff on the ship is top notch. The Cruise director, Lorena, and her staff made everyone on board feel like part of the family. My boyfriend and I had such a great time participating in the daily activities on board and experiencing the nightly entertainment. There was never a dull moment when we were at sea! The food on board was delicious. We ate a few times at the Grand Pacific and Magenta and were never disappointed. My favorite entrees were the Three-Cheese Baked Ziti and the Grilled Salmon. Also, you must must must get the Chocolate Lava Cake for desert! You won't regret it. We also ate at the specialty restaurants Cagney's Steakhouse and La Cucina. The food was great and the service at all of the restaurants were first-class. The first stop on the cruise was Port Canaveral and we chose to do the NASA Kennedy Space Center excursion. It was an amazing experience and we had a great time. The launch simulator was so much fun and the Atlantis exhibit was so good, it gave us goosebumps! Only downside was that we couldn't stay there longer! The second port was Norwegian's beautiful Great Stirrup Cay island where we did the Wave Runner Tour. It was so much fun and was one of the most thrilling experiences I ever had. The island is picture perfect and the water is so clear. I love how we had the whole island to ourselves, it was one big party! The last port was Nassau, Bahamas where we took a boat to Blue Lagoon Island. We did the Dolphin Encounter where we got to hug, kiss, and dance with a dolphin. This was one of my favorite excursions and something I got to cross off my bucket list. One thing I need to mention about this cruise that I found to be very impressive is that our Captain, Lars Bengtsson, went out of his way to save two people who were stranded on a boat in the middle of the Altantic. He saved lives and still got us to the port on time! Overall, my experience was incredible. Thanks to the wonderful staff on-board the Norwegian Gem, I will never forget this vacation and I look forward to cruising with Norwegian again! Read Less

For our 40th wedding anniversary we chose to cruise out of New York harbor for it's ease of access from home. That requirement narrowed choices to a few and NCL's Gem was the pick. After that, a decision was made to spare no expense in an attempt to make our cruise week convenient, hassle free, and to allow ourselves to be pampered. That pampering began right from curbside where as penthouse guests our luggage was taken, we were directed to a private waiting room with coffee, cold drinks and small snacks. And after a wait of 15-20 mins were were escorted around the crowds and up the gang plank to a specialty dining room where we relaxed with drinks while we waited for our room. With the forward penthouse stateroom 10502 the perks continued. The choice although expensive, entitled us to an outstanding view over the bow of the ship from our 284 sq. ft. balcony that came with two lounge chairs two sitting chairs and two round tables all while still providing space to move around and to stand and lean on the railing to take in a 180 degree view of the sea. Cabin 10502 is approx. 500+ sq. ft. with a king size bed, small sofa ( pull out bed ) which was perpendicular to a large floor to ceiling window where we would look out to the balcony and the sea beyond. Inside a table and 4 chairs allowed for dining on snacks and drinks while providing a platform for towel creatures. The closets and drawers provided enough room for 3 and there was a make-up/hair drying station separate from the bathroom. The bathroom was fitted with a shower and tub, sink and mirror and a sliding glass door to personal privacy even as showers were being taken. Of course a mini bar, coffee machine with tea and espresso were also available in the cabin. The mattress was very comfortable and the bedding was plush. Furnishings and equipment were clean, worked as expected and modern. The factor which I believe allowed NCL to exceed expectations for this cabin was the additional perks and services associated with this cabin class. Those extras included NCL staff members which were dedicated to and at our service. One employee was responsible for delivering food or any beverage we requested. We enjoyed coffee, juice, fruit and cheeses all delivered when requested and on a daily basis. We enjoyed early morning 6:30 am deliveries of coffee and had cheese crackers and fruit delivered about 4-5 pm. In addition, the butler was always there to give us tips and ideas with respect to the cruise. Another employee was responsible for every want or need we had other than food and beverages ( although she would have helped with that too ). Our Concierge arranged show seating, shore excursions, smoothed out any cruise wrinkles and provided advise to make sure our cruise week was pleasant and ensured satisfaction. The penthouse cabin also allowed for us to have breakfast and lunch in the specialty dining rooms of Modernos and Cagney's. Sit down table service with waitstaff for these two meals made lines and buffet waiting disappear. French press coffee and fresh squeezed juices were the best. Continuing to treat ourselves we opted for those specialty dining packages covering all evening meals except one which was spent in the main dining room " Grand Pacific ". The specialty dining staff, food quality and venues exceeded our expectations. The service and the food quality in the main dining room was fine, However, the specialty dining was better as expected. The entertainment in the Stardust was very good. Music, dancing, specialty acts and bands there and at the bars were all professional and enjoyable. The activities were standard cruise stuff but ok and fun too. The ports of call were not important to us for this cruise and we were more looking forward to relaxing on the ship for our 3 days at sea. In fact, we had considered not getting off the ship while in port. Another service we opted for and paid extra for was the thermal spa. This area was private, had lounge chairs... heated ones as well. In the spa common area iced water flavored with fruit was available, and coffees and teas were set as well out for us. Additional locker rooms for men and women provided for steam rooms and dry saunas. Again the benefit of exclusivity was that we never felt crowded. Upon arrival at Cape Canaveral we opted to stay on board and relax. At Stirrup Cay we opted for the small cabana. The cabana was great came with a mini bar, a waiter for drinks and personal lounge chairs. Again the intention was to have a private, quite, pampered stay. and for the most part that was true of our stay on the Cay. However, with construction and expansion taking place on their island we had a unacceptable level of continuous noise from a piece of equipment. We had to discuss this with several NCL reps before some accommodation for the noise was made. This required complaining which we were averse to on vacation, required precious time and was never completely eliminated. NCL did credit 25% of the cost back to us, but for us it was not about the money. I have to dig deep now for any negatives. As mentioned the construction noise on the Cay was unacceptable and disappointing. Also, the activities like the martini tasting and whiskey tasting had an additional charge and was unexpected because we had the UBP or unlimited beverage package. Our disappointments were few, they were minor and were not allowed to ruin any part of our week. Finally, one complaint which we had and heard others complain about was the hoarding of lounge chairs on pool decks. From 7am people reserved with towels their chairs. Not sure how NCL could help with this. But no matter what we had a great time and would strongly encourage cruisers to opt for the extras. You're worth it !! Read Less

The food was delicious with so many different verities of food to choose from. I liked that everyday there was a artillery schedule of Activities and Entertainment for the day and there was something for everyone to do. We met good people from other nationalities and laughed, talked and ate together. On one of our Shore exclusions my husband and I when on a jet ski ride and I held a beautiful starfish. My whole family had an enjoyable time, and from every angle possible. The staff were fantastic from the people who spray us with anti bacterial before we eat to the housekeeping staff. We would not cruise with anyone but NCL. They have pampered and spoilt us, for by other cruise line. Our comfort at every level was a priority for the crew, from dinning, to the entertainment. The shows in the stardust theatre was absolutely breathtaking. Our cruise director Lorena made us feel very at home. We were always greeted with smiles and a joke from the crew at all times. Three generations of my family went on this cruise, and everyone found something to enjoy or a way to relax. The staff was excellent, in the dining room, cabins and the shops. The food was unexpectedly good as the quality of cruise food generally has changed dramatically since we first started cruising 20 years ago. There was very little repetition in the entrees and the chef was very creative. The chocolate and flan/crème brulee desserts were excellent. The quality of the hand dipped ice cream was a bit below par. I have been on more than 6 cruises, 2 of which have been on Norwegian -- Gem and Dawn. The Gem is generally a well maintained, older ship which does show its age in a few areas. Oddly, the rest rooms near the bar lounges are very small, and could use upgrades. The mini-suites were very comfortable and well appointed. There was more than enough storage for our things. In one of the three suites we occupied, the bathroom fixture above the commode suddenly fell off the wall and shattered while someone was in there. Fortunately, he was standing and the fixture did not fall on him. It may be worthwhile to check these fixtures as they likely loosen over time. The cabin steward did clean the glass right away. The Kennedy Space Center excursion was a bit rushed, so arriving in Cape Canaveral sooner would have helped, considering the steep price of the tickets. I rented a cabana on the private island, which was well worth the price; the private shower was a pleasant surprise becuase it is not mentioned in the description of the cabana on the excursion site. Two disappointments: First, I paid for the premium wifi/internet access and the service was extremely slow, making work almost impossible -- it took 10 minutes to load just one screen. For $230, I expected much better speed, and it would have been better to limit the number of subscribers rather than sell to everyone, becuase I certainly did not get my money's worth for the access. Second, we ordered our photographs late Friday morning and due to an error in fulfilling our print request, our ability to pick up the photos was delayed. We went to pick them up after the show, but found mistake. They rushed the correction and called our cabin at 10:45 PM to pick up (altho the photo shop closed at 11, which didn't give us much time to get there), but we had already retired to our cabins and figured we would pick them up in the morning. However, when went Saturday morning, we were told that we would have to pay tax since we were in port. This was however, not made apparent to us the night before, which would have incentivized me to make the trip to the studio when I received the call. After some debate, and a call to the manager, we were compensated with 3 additional prints, which we really did not want or need, since the tax had to be paid. I think that this situation could have been slightly better handled on Friday night. Nonetheless, I good time was had by all, and we would certainly travel with Norwegian again. You made a believer out of my brother, who was cynical about being "stuck on a boat" for a week! Read Less

The mainstage shows on board the Norwegian Gem were the best of any cruise line I've sailed. The singers and dancers were truly top-notch, and the arrangements (orchestrations) and performance quality were superb. I loved the high energy of the dancing and the variety of the three show themes (swing, country/western, 70s). Knowing that the singers are classically trained, I would love to see/hear the singers program a recital of classical art songs, perhaps some afternoon during the cruise - what a lovely addition to the schedule of events that would be. The jogging track on the Norwegian Gem is much nicer than the tracks on board other ships, in that the route is longer and more interesting (i.e., not just an oval in shape). As with other ships' jogging tracks, though, there is a constant problem of oblivious fellow passengers getting in the way of runners. To help prevent these "run-ins," I would suggest posting signs indicating "Yield to Runners." This ship has a lot of great features for lovers of ocean liners and nautical lore, including art and artifacts from liners like the SS United States and the Normandie, plus a bridge viewing window that is open during daylight hours (except when docking). We chose this cruise because we wanted to try a Norwegian cruise. The date, destinations and departure worked well for us. Embarkation ws smooth and organized and we were on the ship before noon. The ship showed it's age a bit but there but it's a nice managable size and easy to get around. There were no obvious problems or issues. That being said, the pools were small and the hot tubs were always full. We remedied that situation by splurging for the thermal spa package, this provided us with acces to the mineral pool, whirlpools steamroom and saunas and no kids! We found most of the food to be better than average. We usually had dinner in the Grand Pacific, the selection and quality of the food was good but not great, We had 3 specialty dining meals included in our package and chose Cagney's (very good) Le Bistro (excellent) and the Brazillian restruant (fair it may have just been an off night), Breakfast and lunch were usually at the outside buffet in the back of the ship, not as crowded as inside, with a smaller selection. The food was good though. We also enjoyed the outside BBQs on the pool deck, especially the seafood. The unlimited beverage plan was also included with our cruise package. The drinks we had were all good, The entertainment was very good, the singers and dancers were very talented. Tim, the comedian was funny and a really nice guy, The aerial acrobatic couple was great as well as the magician. The Cruise Director and her staff did their best to offer onboard activities though sometimes they fell a little short, not enough to make the cruise any less enjoyable. The lounge entertainment was fair, with the exception of the band "Prism", they were consistently outstanding. The service overall was excellent, everyone was friendly, our cabin was well maintained and the dining staff all did a nice job. We took a Lyft to the Coco Beach Pier and enjoyed a nice day at the beach, $25 for 2 chairs and an umbrella for the day. Great Stirrup Cay was nice, we took a late tender after lunch and still had plenty of time in the water, In Nassau we resisted the lure of Paradise Island and went to Blue Lagoon instead, money well spent. Overall, we got what we were looking for, a nice relaxing week away. Read Less

I have always wanted to go a cruise. I chose this cruise because of its convenience . It left from New York. I was celebrating my 51st Birthday and I was a Solo Cruiser. I had a wonderful and memorable time. I met wonderful people. The Shore activities were exciting. The extensive sanitary conditions made me feel assured I was on a safe and clean ship. The cabin was clean and the food was delicious. The embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. The club Bliss is known for Karaoke and every night with DJ Remy there was a good turnout. The shore excursions to CoCo Beach in Florida and Port Carnavel as well as the private island Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas were exciting. I swam along a yellow striped fish and seen four iguanas that were within ten feet from me. I was a first time cruiser, and I am ready to cruise again. I would take the Norweign Gem again leaving from New York. Read Less

We wanted a nice relaxing family vacation where we were waited on all the time. This cruise did not disappoint!! There was as much or as little to do as you desired. The staff was AMAZING! So much fun!!! There was something to do for the entire family including my 87 year old father! He had a blast!! I highly recommend this cruise. Our group was over 21 and highly recommend the beverage package as well as the premium dining. Both did not disappoint! It was high end liquor/wine and excellent food! If you didn't have fun on this cruise, it's your own fault! The crew were so friendly and made you feel like a million bucks!! They remember your name, your drink choice, etc. It exceeded all my expectations! I hadn't been on a cruise for over 35 years! Go and enjoy if you book this cruise. You will love it!! Read Less

My husband and I chose Norwegian because of their itenerary out of NYC and the freestyle model. We had an amazing experience from the time we arrived at port until we returned. The Haven area and staff were everything we expected. The private island and amount of excursion options was perfect. Lorena, the cruise dirctor, had great energy and made you want to have fun. The shows were great every night and Justin the piano player was a highlight of our trip. We are already planning our next cruise with Norwegian. The restaurants were all great wether you want a quick meal at the buffet or going to the main dining hall. The main dining restaurants felt like the specialties and we were free to eat when you wanted. We ate at 3 specialties and they were all terrific and entertaining. The boat was clean and all staff were friendky and professional. Read Less

I originally chose this cruise because it was the only cruise out of NY that went to the Bahamas during the time period I was looking for. I was hesitant to cruise from NY to the Bahamas, as I worried about rough waters. The entire cruise was smooth sailing! We were on the ship by noon on embarkment day and eating at O'Sheehan's soon after. The staff throughout the ship were friendly and helpful. We ate at both main dining rooms (Magenta and Grand Pacific) and they were wonderful. We also tried Cagney's, La Cucina, and Tepenyaki....all were delicious and we experienced excellent service. We went to the main entertainment just about every night. My entire family ( including kids ages 13-21) enjoyed all of the shows. There was always something for all of us to do. We were in 3 separate Family Oceanview Rooms. The window was very large which made the room seem a bit bigger. For the ports, we took a shuttle to Cocoa Beach just to walk around and explore a bit. Great Stirrup Cay was very relaxing and beautiful. We went over to Blue Lagoon Island for a Dolphin Encounter in Nassau. That was the best stop. I highly recommend that place for families. There is so much to do. Disembarkment was the easiest I have ever experienced. You could get off the ship immediately, if you chose or stay for breakfast and hang out a bit, as we did. Overall, I would highly recommend the Norwegian Gem. Read Less

We spent 3 days in NYC beforehand exploring the city before boarding the Bahamas bound ship. As a father-daughter trip (11 yrs old) we had a great time! Boarding was smooth and we got our cabin right on time. The ship is older but well maintained, cabin small but clean and what we expected for an inside cabin. We dined in the main draining area all nights. Food was overall good, some exceptional dishes but overall ok. Shows were all great and really well orchestrated. My daughter and I looked forward to them every night. Pools were small but nice. It was good to have an adults only pool. Water slide was below expectation when compared to some newer ships but we know that in advance and made the best of it. We did Cocoa Beach to relax, great stir up snorkeling which was fun and Atlantis was a blast in Nassau although very pricey. For kids though it’s hard to beat! Read Less

Having read recent reviews, I was questioning my choice of the Gem. The reviews were wrong. I have been going on cruises since I was 9 years old. We cruised at the peak of the old time cruise industry when cruises were very fancy. I still enjoy cruising and the Gem was a great experience and vacation. Yes, it is a smaller ship without the big slides and things of that nature, but it isn't all about the fluff. This ship & crew took great care of my family of 6 and we all had a great vacation. We had three inside cabins... yes cabins are small but how often are you in the cabin... our use of the cabin was primarily to sleep & change clothes. We found the cabin to have lots of storage space. I was in 11589. Our cabin steward was Jonathan. The cabin was always made up & spotless. My wife needed softer pillows and despite the ship being completely full, Jonathan found her pillows. We found the public areas to be well appointed and plentiful. Other than the pool deck, one never felt that there was 2500 guests on the boat. We very much enjoyed the shows in the Stardust Theater and the piano music and entertainer Justin Golan in Magnums Champagne bar. Spinnakers Lounge overlooking the front of the ship was beautiful and we enjoyed the Newlywed Game and the Perfect Couples games in that lounge. I suggest dinner in the Grand Pacific Dining Room... beautiful room. We tried to get the waiter Jaka and wine steward Marie every night. Food and variety was good as was the attention to detail. We ate breakfast a few times in the dining room before breakfasting at the buffet and sitting at the Great Outdoors to enjoy the view off the back of the ship. Lunch was always on the pool deck and there were many options... from charcoal bbq to a buffet. Yes the pool deck gets crowded, but why wouldn't it... everyone wants to be outside. There were plenty of chairs to sit in either on the pool deck or in the deck above overlooking the pool. The adult pool was big enough for all to enjoy and was kept clean. If you like pictures, I would suggest buying a picture pkg before you depart. The savings pre-voyage is tremendous. I was able to get 11 beautiful pictures, a picture of the ship and a USB of my pics for $149. On board the pics sell for $24 each. I don't really know why Port Canveral is a port of call. However the private island is fabulous. Drink pkg can be used there and there is lunch from 12-2 prepared by the ship at a kitchen on the island. We did the waterpark at the Atlantis in Nassau... while expensive, I highly recommend. Don't let the reviews turn you away from the GEM. It was a great cruise. Read Less
